NXP Bloggers

The topic of my first entry is to discuss the blog pages within the NXP semiconductors blog page. NXP semiconductors specializes in research and development for key applications in the fields of automotive design, identification, wireless communications, lighting, infrastructure, mobile communications, consumer products, and portable computer products. The bloggers are all part of the NXP Company and range from design engineers, marketing directors, to communication managers. The bloggers use the pages to educate people about new products by NXP and how they may, or have been integrated into new technology.

The main audience attracted by these blogs would seem to be those in fields of engineering or technologies. Yet, because a lot of the blogs are about automotive innovations, new consumer products and computing, it would be easy to assume that posts may also attract people who do not have a scientific background. Although the bloggers are writing about technical topics, they make a point of writing in a way which allows most readers to follow along and understand what they are talking about, unlike many other technical blogging pages. They write in very clear tones and tend to be primarily formal as well as objective in their posts.

The bloggers for NXP will usually link to other sources for more detailed information, whether they are discussing a new product or blogging about a larger issue.  Generally, they will use links to allow the reader to find more out more technical information on a topic which they were blogging about.

Although the blog posts are informative and easy in nature to follow, the use of photos and videos are not always a direct hit from a technical perspective. For example, one of NXP’s bloggers, Shawn Scarlett blogged about new phone amplifier that will allow the output of a speaker to be roughly eight times the power they once could be, from 0.67 W to 4 W. The pictures used within the blog seemed as though they would apply more to a company trying to sell a phone rather than the company that designed a new technology for it. Instead, possibly the use of a picture as the one below would help back up the blog comparing old amplifier output to new amplifier outputs.

This lack of technical pictures seems to be a trend of many of the blogs on the site. Although technical pictures may sometimes be found by following a link, many times they are not incorporated into the actual blog entry themselves.

As a whole, the entire NXP blog site is quite interesting and has many articles about up and coming technology in all fields of interest. As well as having interesting stories, most of the bloggers on their site write in a way that is easy to read and keeps your attention while reading.
