My goals at PSU

BeforeI arrived at PSU last week, I was nervous for many things like making new friends, wondering if I’ll enjoy the path I’m taking, and the workload. So far, it’s not too bad. Making new friends seems scary now, but I know I’ll definitely meet some great people. I know for sure one class will strike my interest and allow me to establish a career path that I’m passionate about. Since I’m on my own, all this time will allow me to better myself in a countless number of ways- academically, emotionally, and physically.

In order to achieve these things, lots and lots of bad habits will have to be changed asap. I am single-handedly the most disorganized person I know and at times very lazy when it comes to work. I’ll have to stay organized (not just for a week) and actually put effort in the work I do.  In high school, all I did was hang out with friends and rarely did school work, so ‘ll need to put school first and set my priorities in order.

I’d like to get involved in things around campus. One of my favorite things to do is ski and joining the ski club is at the top of things I want to take a look at. If I have enough time, rushing and joining a sorority are things that seem to be a great way of meeting new people and opening different opportunities. Participating in THON is also something on my list.

I’ve set 3 of the following goals: one for my first semester, first year, and the end of my four years here. Regardless of whether or not the classes I am taking this summer are needed for what I plan to do, the classes will strengthen my skills and knowledge on different areas that will help me to succeed. With that being said, I would like to work hard in these two classes so I can establish good habits and set my fall semester off on a positive note. I’ve heard that your freshman year can be the most challenging because of the different experiences you’ll go through than those in high school. Obviously, you’re away from your parents, the workload triples, and balancing school and social life can be very hard. For my first year, my goal is to not let the new and exciting idea of college, affect my studying and classes and get the best grades I possibly can. At the end of my four years at Penn State, I’d like to have a degree in Kinesiology or Biobehavioral Health, and hopefully plan to go to graduate school. By that time I hope I have had made the best out of my time here and created some good friendships and relationships along the way.

  1. Welcome to Penn State. You have set some attainable goals for your first year. Be sure to review them at the end of the semester to evaluate how well you achieved them. Then, adjust them as needed, make some more for the next semester — until May 2025.

Kinesiology has a killer “weed out” course my friend used to teach. Stay focused and determined, you will achieve your goals!

I look forward to being a part of your PSU journey.
