1. STEM Luncheon 2/25

Our next Graduate STEM Scholars luncheon will be on Tuesday, February 25 from 12 pm to 1:30 pm in the Assembly Room at the Nittany Lion Inn. We are delighted to have Michael Alley as our guest speaker, who is a professor of Engineering Communication at Penn State. 3. Celebration of Black Lives 2/21
The Black Graduate Student Association will host a banquet, “Celebration of Black Lives,” with Dominican-American entrepreneur and investor John Henry as the speaker. The theme is “self-determination.” This event is free and open to all members of the Penn State community. 6:30 p.m., this Friday, February 21st, HUB-Robeson Center’s Heritage Hall. 4. Mentoring Matters: Fostering Culture Change in Mentoring Excellence 2/24

February 24, 2020

9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Room 103 Bank of America Building

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) are hosting a Mentoring Summit to be held at the Big Ten Conference Center and on individual BTAA campuses via satellite meetings.  Penn State faculty, administrators, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students are invited to attend the Penn State satellite meeting to discuss how to foster culture change in mentoring excellence.

Please register by Wednesday, February 19, 2020. You are able to register for the full day or half-day (morning/afternoon) sessions.

 

Tentative Schedule:

9:00 a.m. -9:30 a.m. Coffee and pastries
9:30 a.m. -11:00 a.m. Sharing Existing Models to Advance Mentorship Efforts
11:15 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Capacity Building and Institutional Cultural Change
12:30 p.m. -1:30 p.m. Lunch – discussion of NASEM report on the Science of Effective Mentoring in STEMM
1:30 p.m. -2:15 p.m. Extending this Work Beyond STEMM
2:15 p.m. -3:30 p.m. Institutional Planning- Next Steps to Build a Culture of Mentoring Excellence
