2. 4CR Hosts a Tamale Fundraiser

Howdy fellow state college friends! You may have heard about 4CR and efforts in our community to help Centre County residents suffering profoundly as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. On Sunday, May 17 you can enjoy a delicious dinner that directly benefits local families who have lost jobs and are facing dire circumstances, including food and housing insecurity while trying to stay healthy and safe. Feel free to pass on this announcement to any friends, family, or loved ones in your network so we can support these families.

MAY 17 IS HOT TAMALE SUNDAY!

Give yourself a break from the kitchen and enjoy a rare treat this weekend! Fresh warm tamales, refreshing horchata drinks, and a choice of decadent tres leches cake or artisanal flan for dessert.

· Tamales will be available in three varieties: chicken, beef, or potato & green bean (vegan). Tamales are made with corn masa and are entirely gluten-free. Savory recado sauce will be packaged separately and included with each order. Tamales are $4 each or 3/$10.

· Horchata (traditional sweet rice beverage) is vegan and gluten-free. 12 oz. cup is $1.75.

· For dessert, choose from incredibly moist tres leches cake ($5/piece) and rich caramel flan ($6/each).

100% of sales go to support families who are working hard to help themselves during this difficult time.

Place your order by midnight Friday, May 15 using this order form: https://bit.ly/3ckCurA and pay via PayPal/credit card or Venmo. Then on Sunday, May 17 a team of 4CR volunteers will deliver your fresh, hot & delicious order right to your door between 4:00 and 5:30 p.m. (20-mile radius of State College; pick-up points will be arranged for orders outside the 20-mile radius). Deliveries are contactless, and all health and safety precautions will be taken during the production and delivery of your order. If you have questions about allergens, please email 4centreresources@gmail.com.

More about 4CR:

The Centre County COVID-19 Community Response (4CR) is a grass-roots team of volunteers dedicated to coordinating local mutual aid efforts for individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 (more updates on Facebook). At the individual level, 4CR matches volunteers directly with families who request help in a range of areas. 4CR is also working at the system level to advocate for rent freezes and other protections for people who have been hard hit by pandemic effects. Lastly, due to the overwhelming volume of individuals that currently need assistance, 4CR established a solidarity fund that accepts donations to help in our efforts.

Want to do more for local families?

· Through 4CR’s solidarity fund, you can share a little of what you have with members of our community. Anything donated will be so very appreciated.

· Consider signing the local petition calling for a rent freeze in order to help individuals impacted by COVID-19. More information can be found in the link.

· Consider volunteering with 4CR. You can fill out the EnglishSpanishChinese, and/or Farsi forms to be matched with local individuals who need assistance. Thank you so much for your time and your concern for those in our community.

4. Wednesday’s Fun Fact

Cosmos atrosanguineus, aka chocolate cosmos, is a plant from Mexico that can grow up to about 24 inches high and has a maroon-colored flower. It’s famous for it’s chocolate-y scent, but don’t be fooled. No part of this plant is edible. – How Stuff Works
Have a great week!
