All about me :)

Welcome to my blog site!  To give you an overview of me; I am an enthusiastic adventurist, travel junkie, and teacher who loves the world of math and all aspects that it touches.

I would love to start by telling you a little bit about myself.  I am 34 years old, live in southern California and am a high school teacher.  I was fortunate enough to have studied abroad in Spain during my senior year at UC Riverside where I learned Spanish and found my love for seafood.  After graduating, I started working but kept on having an itch to live abroad so I convinced my husband to move to Europe for 6 months.  We love to travel on our free time and have enjoyed meeting people in each place we have visited.  We have visited many places but one of the best experiences we have enjoyed was traveling to Brazil for the world cup in 2014 (And yes, I love soccer!).  Together we have two sons, Evan, who is almost 3, and Parker who is 7 months.  They are a handful but keep us honest and slightly sleep deprived.

As far as career wise goes, I became a teacher 8 years ago and have never looked back.  Teaching was my third career after trying outside sales for three years and photography for a year.  Although I loved and enjoyed the first two careers, teaching is where my heart is and where I wake up excited for each day and find constant challenges and joy.  I currently teach at Chaffey High School which is located in Ontario, CA.  My classes change from year to year but right now most of my students are freshman or sophomores. I teach Integrated Math which combines Algebra and Geometry concepts together.

This is my second course at Penn State World Campus and I am excited to continue class.  One of the aspects that I am most excited about for this specific class is exploring the internet and web tools available to myself, colleagues, and students.  I know some people would consider me a millennial but I have not lived my whole life with the internet.  I remember no computer and when the computer did come about, no mouse, dial up, and all of the in’s and out’s of being patient when you had to search for something.  The internet now is something that I really don’t end up having a lot of time for which I wish I did.  I would love time to explore and really connect with communities around the world and other teachers in my specific content area.  With the busyness of two small children, working full time, and volunteering at various events for church and community, I find that my nights consist of trying to sleep and hanging out with my dog, Toby and my husband.   I am hoping this course will help me continue to engage my students, add to their learning, and better prepare them to be 21st century learners as well as give me opportunities to explore and learn.
