“Beach Fire at Sunset”

This piece was inspired by the one of the most influential figures in Modernism, Georgia O’Keefe. She is best known for her large-format paintings of natural subjects, especially flowers. She mastered the elements of line, color, and composition, which made her work so powerful.

She lived in a male-dominated world and was constantly reminded of her gender as she moved through the art world. Her highly vibrant close-up work of flowers and other natural subjects have been assumed to be erotic, although she denied that was her intent. The flowers are often symbolically associated with femininity and softness, love and sexuality.
