“Fireworks in Firenze”

Acrylic on Canvas

I studied abroad for 6 weeks of the summer in Florence, Italy. My brother had told me about this sporting event called “Calcio Storico Fiorentino” which is a historic form of football that started in the middle ages.

My brother had told me that it would be a must-see game so I was set on going. I could not get tickets since they sell out early, however I walked around the stadium that day in the hopes someone would feel bad and let me in. I waited alone outside the gate for at least two hours and finally got let in.

It was probably the best experience of my life going to this sports game when I had no idea what to expect. And to clarify, it was NOT what I expected, but definitely better. The blue team won and in celebration that night there were blue fireworks over the bridge known as Ponte Vecchio. The streets were flooded with people celebrating the big win.

It was one of the best days of my life so this piece really brings back great memories.

A picture of the team celebrating their win.
