Why do we need to purchase the Entrance-to-Major kit?
The Entrance-to-Major kit is used in lab activities in ME 348: Circuit Analysis, Instrumentation and Statistics and ME 454: Mechatronics. It is required for these courses rather than requiring a textbook. Components of the kit are also required for some sections of ME 340: Mechanical Engineering Design Methodology. Students also frequently use the kits for Honors options, final project assignments in other courses, and in senior capstone, but it is not required in other courses.
What classes require the kit?
The kit is required for ME 348: Circuit Analysis, Instrumentation and Statistics and ME 454: Mechatronics in lieu of a textbook.
What’s in the kit?
The kit contents can be found under the getting started tab or by clicking here.
Why does the kit have to be purchased through Pitsco?
The kit does not have to be purchased through Pitsco. You are welcome to purchase each component individually as needed. You can find the list of components here. However, we have found that Pitsco has been able to offer a competitive price on the components as a package. The department also fundraises to cover part of the cost of the kit using a discount code.
Where do I pickup the kit after I have purchased it?
To save on shipping costs, all kits are shipped in bulk to the Toolbox in ME Knowledge Lab located in the basement of Reber Bldg. You must come when the Toolbox is staffed (typically 9a-4p M-F, but hours vary each semester).
When will my kit arrive?
Kits should arrive within 1 week of orders being placed. You can check with your course instructor as they receive lists of kits that have been included in recent shipments.
Can I donate my kit back to the department?
The department keeps kit components on hand for students who damage their kits mid-semester or when students are experience financial hardship. If you are interested in donating the kit to future students, you can contact Dr. Pangborn or Dr. Fitzsimons to arrange drop off.
