Facilities

Penn State has a Neptune Plus MC-ICP-MS and a Triton Plus TIMS, both of which reside in the Metal Isotope Laboratory (MIL). These instruments are a state-of-the-art instruments capable of measuring isotopic composition at the sub-permil level. The Neptune can measure a wide-range of so-called non-traditional isotope systems, which are inaccessible to more traditional gas- and solid-source techniques. The TIMS produces high-precision 87Sr/86Sr and Ca isotope data using a 42-43 double spike.

At Penn State, we focus on the analysis of metal isotopes such as Ca, Cu, Fe, Li, Mg, and Sr. However, we are open to all collaborations and welcome users from all field to contact us.

The MIL is part of a larger multi-user facility called LIME, which contains a wide range of analytical instrumentation for geochemical analysis.
