FYE #6

Well, this is it. My last FYE post of the year. Time really does fly.

As summer session winds down (only one and a half more weeks left), it is time to sit back and reflect on my six weeks here. On June 24, my parents dropped me off at Beaver Hall and said our goodbyes. The door closed, I laid down on my bed, and I just thought to myself, “Freedom”. The first time I would be away from my parents for more than a week. I knew I would have a lot of growing up to do over the course of the summer (which I feel like I have), but words couldn’t even describe how excited I was to start this next chapter of my life.
The first few days were so much fun, meeting new people, going to the pool, the gym, and all the free time in the world. Then class started. Going to school in the summer was literally the last thing I wanted to do, especially after getting out of high school less than a month earlier. We were given a lot of work, but hey, it’s college, I knew I was going to have to get used to it. After a few weeks, I began to become accustomed to the college work load (even though it’s only two classes right now), and I know this summer will be worth it when I am more prepared for classes in the fall.
Reflecting on my summer here has gotten me thinking, how much closer to my goals have I gotten? Well, I think I have definitely achieved my goal of making a good group of friends to start, after meeting a lot of great people (who just happened to live on my floor). My second goal of becoming involved in clubs and activities, still needs some work, however, due to the fact that there are no clubs or activities to really get involved in in the summer. In regards to the goals I set for myself academically, I feel like I have made strides in the right direction, but I am still not where I need to be. I have improved my study habits somewhat, my work ethic is higher, and my grades are decent, but not necessarily where I would like them to be. All in all, I feel as though summer session was a great experience for me, and I cannot wait until the fall semester begins!
