Three weeks until Thanksgiving break, six weeks until Christmas break, and once we get through Friday, it’ll finally be the weekend!
Something I have discovered about myself throughout the years of struggling with my mental health is keeping an eye out for rewards. What do I mean by that?
If you’re having trouble focusing because of how foggy life is appearing, try looking forward to something.
Presently, I just started a job that I love. Training week ends today and I am already looking forward to payday.
I am also looking forward to Halloween! In my psychology course, if students dress up as anything related to psychology, and briefly explain it to the class, they get extra credit. You bet I am excited for that.
Looking forward to things, especially when your brain feels so cluttered that you can hardly think, is crucial to staying motivated. You’ll get there, but you just have to get a few things done first. Sometimes surviving the day can be hard itself, but you got this. These papers that are due will pass, midterms will be over soon, and dare I say the f-word… You will make it through FINALS too.
As some of you may know from my last post, I was on the Dr. Phil show, and my episode aired Tuesday. The aftermath is consuming my life, but I won’t get into the legal issues. Needless to say, sometimes there are great obstacles that get in your way, which has thrown my internal routine schedule way off track.
I’ve gotten love and support, but I’ve also received backlash. It’s hard when you want to go home so badly on the weekends, but you don’t feel welcome there. If you have no idea what I am talking about, all of the Dr. Phil clips can be found on YouTube, and when you put them together, you’re basically watching the show. Check out my last post if you have any other questions.
Giant obstacles will pass too. In my lifetime, it has felt like there has been giant rocks hurdling at my life, like when Indiana Jones sets off a trap.
Something I have realized throughout this entire process, however, is reaching out to those who love you, is not a sign of weakness. Going out to ice cream with them can be an example of looking forward to something. Don’t push people away, because if the situation were reversed, you know what you’d want your friends to do.
I hope this has helped someone, and if it didn’t, at least it helped me vent a tad.
Until next time, stay strong!
