TED Talk Ideas

I chose to write about how gender stereotypes have changed over time for my paradigm shift paper. I approached this topic by comparing modern gender stereotypes to gender stereotypes of the 19th century. I don’t really know much about TED talks but here are a few points that stood out to me that I could speak about from my paper: The difference in how men and women were viewed by society in the 19th century and in modern times. In the past, men were seen as strong, dominant, wise figures while women were viewed as submissive, dependent, and weak. I noticed that men held very positive...

Paradigm Shift Paper Rough Draft

I’m not finished writing this paper and I’m also struggling to think of a good way to conclude it. I feel like there are a lot of  other things I could do to improve this but this is what I’ve accomplished so far: Of all stereotypes, gender stereotypes are among the most common. Self perception is kind of a funny thing. An article published in a Psychology journal explained a visual illusion which I found to be very interesting. This visual illusion experiment is said to cause your own reflection in the mirror to become distorted. To experience this illusion, you must follow several steps. First, you have to stare at your own reflection in a dimly lit room. This is supposed to trigger the illusion but you have to be sure that the room is very dimly lit or else the experiment won’t have much an affect on you. Following that, you then have to stare into a large...

Response To The Debate

Once again, president Barack Obama and Mitt Romney went at it in another debate this past Tuesday. I wasn’t at all surprised at the behavior that both candidates displayed. At one point that evening, the debate focused on a very important issue, the attack that resulted in the death of the US ambassador to Libya. President Obama’s thoughts on this attack brought on a heated argument between the candidates which occurred when the moderator asked the president if Hillary Clinton, the Secretary of State responsible for the failures which then led to the death of the ambassador and a...
