Shu-jen Chen
schen1@pennstatehealth.psu.edu Assistant Professor
I study molecular and cellular mechanisms through which ion channels, including TRPM2, modulate cell proliferation and survival. My current focus is on signaling pathways through which TRPM2 modulates chemotherapy sensitivity and autophagy in AML cells.
Lei Bao
lbao@pennstatehealth.psu.edu Research Associate
I am investigating the role of TRPM2 in regulation of mitochondrial function, ROS production, and the antioxidant defense in neuroblastoma. In addition to molecular studies, my work utilizes confocal microscopy and metabolomics.
Fernanda Festa
ffesta@pennstatehealth.psu.edu Assistant Professor
I am focused on identifying novel mechanisms through which oxidative stress and calcium entry through TRPM2 modulate transcription and translation. I am utilizing RNA-seq and mass spectroscopy and focus on neuronal tumors, including neuroblastoma and glioblastoma.
Kerry Keefer
kkeefer@pennstatehealth.psu.edu Research Tech
I provide technical support for the lab and am primarily responsible for the in vivo xenograft experiments to assist with several research projects. I maintain and manage the laboratory transgenic mouse colony and am primary lab coordinator for compliance with safety, bio-hazard, and animal care and use regulations.
Iwona Hirschler-Laszkiewicz
ihirschlerlaszkiewic@pennstatehealth.psu.edu Assistant Professor
My work focuses on the role of the TRPM2 ion channel in survival of neuroblastoma cells. I am investigating how TRPM2 influences mitochondria function through regulation of expression and activation of transcription factors which modulate mitochondrial protein expression and activity.
