Hidden Gem in the White Building

Despite having ZERO in-person classes, here I am living on campus in Pollock Halls. Due to the lack of AC, waking up in a puddle of your own sweat doesn’t exactly make you jump out of bed to go on a run. With that being said, I’ve been finding it super difficult to keep myself motivated to eat healthy and stay active (and the extension of the gyms being closed is NO help).

Luckily, I’ve found a gem right across the street that will make eating healthier so much easier!! (Even though the dorms are dumpy, you can’t beat Pollock’s location).

Yesterday I ventured out to the White Building and stumbled upon Shake Smart. Created by two college students who also found it difficult to find healthy, convenient options, Shake Smart is centered around offering high protein, low sugar options for on-the-go-students. They sell anything from protein shakes, smoothies, acai bowls, overnight oats, sandwiches, and wraps!

As if all these delicious, healthy options couldn’t get any better…. you can also order online! These online orders help cut down on wait times, making it much faster and easier than other restaurants. You can also see how many people are ahead of you so you can time your pick-up perfectly. It also limits in-person contact which is especially important during these times. Not to mention that you can also use your meal plan or Lion Cash to save some $$ (all college students are in need of that)!

Yesterday, I tried out the original acai bowl, which was loaded with acai, coconut, granola, and sliced bananas. It was delicious and I was stuffed!!

Based off of the sheer number of healthy yet yummy options, the convenient location and quick service, and the meal plan or Lion Cash Option, I would rate this restaurant a 10/10!! You really cannot make a wrong decision at Shake Smart. There are options to satisfy any mood – from a pre-workout meal to a guilt-free snack.

I’m super happy that I decided to try out Shake Smart, and I think you will be too. It’s a great time and money saver, and get your fruits and veggies for the day in!!!

I will be on the hunt for more college-friendly healthy food options around State College and on campus and will try to stay active in the meantime. If you’ve tried this out or have any other suggestions let me know! Till next time 🙂

I live in Atherton, so the White Building is right next door, and my roommate has been dying for me to go checkout this place with her. I will most definitely be going there now! I really love Playa Bowls, and I know it’s a fairly healthy food option, but it contains quite a bit of sugar, so I’m interested to see how Shake Smart compares to the chain since it brands itself as being nutritious, too.

This is such a smart initiative! I have been worried about gaining the freshman 15 especially with classes all online this year. This has led me to take the stairs instead of the elevator(I live on the fifth floor so it really is a climb). I am interested to see what other tips you have instore to stay healthy while on campus!

I know I’m not in your blog group, but I read your post and I totally related to it. I had a super healthy diet at home and I was struggling to find good options with a lot of vegetables at the dining commons. I read this post two days ago and I’ve been to Shake Smart 3 times since then! It’s my new favorite place on campus. Thank you so much for sharing this hidden gem, I can’t wait to see what else you find out about!
