Behavior Incentives
This picture is one of the ways I used behavioral incentives to model positive behavior in my classroom. Before each week, I would create a chart that had a hint of what the reward would be if each part of the picture was colored in for positive behavior. On the chart, there is always reminders in the form of questions so students can acknowledge their behavior in the classroom.
Questions:
- “Am I Safe?”
- “Am I Responsible?”
- “Am I Participating?”
- “Am I Respectful?”
- “Am I Ready to Learn?”
- “Is my behavior positive?”
Together, the class would come up with ways that they can show they are safe, responsible, participating, respectful, ready, and positive. For each lesson, students had to work as the whole class to earn the opportunity to color in another piece of the picture. When the picture was colored in fully, we earned a reward. For this particular picture, we made “snow” that students took home to teach Sequencing in Wonders.
Justification:
- productively engages individual and groups in learning tasks
- uses a range of strategies to promote positive relationships, cooperation and purposeful learning in the classroom
- makes transitions productive and seamless
- establishes routines for handling materials and supplies
- establishes routine for non-instructional duties
- communicates high academic and behavioral expectations for all learners
