Artifact Speech Outline

Introduction: I will begin with using imagery to depict different scenarios, tied together by the statement that “we all bleed red”. The speech follows a chronological order, and the thesis statement and preview will reflect that.

First body paragraph: After transitioning to clearly mark this as a paragraph for visual rhetoric, I would begin to focus on the colors. The use of red can be associated with blood, yet also evoke passion or anger. It is also a darker form of pink, bringing to mind femininity. Thus, this paragraph would focus on tying these concepts together.

Second paragraph: The next paragraph would focus on the interpersonal literacy aspect. Unlike many ads featuring a singular women, there are many people, some who even seem to be men. This encourages men to have more empathy for women by getting a more direct look into their pain or struggles.

Third paragraph: This will be shorter, and will tie the first two body paragraphs to Gender Equality and Good Health and Well-Being. I will include statistics relating to access to menstrual products to highlight why this is a relevant issue, as well examples of women being shamed for menstruating (I can personally connect this to Hinduism, where women are prevented from certain actions.

Conclusion: Comparatively short, this paragraph will reiterate the points I made previously and end in a similar fashion to the intro – this will give a sense of closure.

  1. I love the idea of connecting your artifact to your faith and the issues within Hinduism surrounding the menstrual cycle. Something that you can attest to that you’ve seen first hand and can reflect on that experience in a first or third-person manner.

  2. I like the structure and flow of your ideas in your speech. The concepts you have lined up really help the audience understand not just what the artifact is, but its importance. I also like your tie between your artifact and religious concepts and feel that it could add a lot to your speech.

  3. I like your ideas to analyze the color. Color’s impact is prodigious yet often subconscious, so it’s a wise idea to dissect that element. I’m excited to see how you will develop your intro because your hooks are always interesting. Keep up the good work!
