Upcoming Events

Maple Madness is on February 23, and March 2. We need more volunteers and we will also have a sponsorship on a place-mat.

Carolyn from 4H is looking for stations for their Wildlife and Forestry Field Day on Saturday March 23. This will be from 10am – 5pm at Caledonia State Park at the Pine Pavilion. We will discuss more of this at our next meeting, but if anyone has any further questions for Carolyn, she can be reached at cmm5716@psu.edu.

Everyday is Arbor Day will be on Saturday, April 13 rain or shine. We are planting a tree in honor of an alumnus.

Activities Committee has pitched the idea of doing the Climbasium on Friday, March 22. We would need a $50 deposit and it will be $18 a person. This will all be taking place from 6pm-10pm.

Next Meeting: Feb 25 at 12:20. Possibly in the Heritage Room

The new chair for the Activities Committee is Silas Dishong. The new chair for the Fundraising Committee is Jacob Sunderlund.

Forestry Club will be snow-tubing at White Tail Ski Resort on January 27th at 5:00 pm. The bus will leave at 4:00 pm from the Commuter lot.

Committees

The Activities Committee has developed some ideas for what we can do as a club. The ideas are Trap Shooting, a trip to the Climbasium, a Movie Night, Paintball at Round Top Ski Resort, Camping, and Skiing.

The Fundraising Committee developed some ideas to gain money. The ideas are doing yard-work for the local neighborhood, a firewood sale, bandannas, and mugs.

The Communications Committee has developed some ideas to make our club more known. The ideas are an Instagram page, an ad in the Stall Stories, and adding a bio and a calendar to the web-page.

Upcoming Events

Alleghany SAF convention will be held in Morgantown, WV on February 21. We plan to leave on February 20. Our Quiz Bowl team will consist of Shaina Walker, Marc Stafford, Brady Williams, and Cullen Cameron. Freshmen interested in attending must become members of SAF. To become a member, sign up at http://www.eforester.org.

Maple Madness will be held on February 23. Those who volunteer must leave campus by 6:00. There will be all-you-can-eat pancakes.

Additional Notes

Our shirt fundraiser lost money. If you have in issue with the shirt, you must talk to Dr. Brantley. There is an extra Men’s Medium, but only one.

Our next meeting is February 6.

8/27/18 This year we had the first forestry club meeting during the forestry club picnic. Shaina presented a club calendar of events.

9/5/18 Students participated in the Commitment Fair to sign up members.

9/12/18 First meeting of the year. Sophomore students gave a presentation on their summer jobs and activities.

9/22/18 Participated in the Franklin County Farm Fest in Shippensburg. Students demonstrated forestry tools to visitors and answered questions.

9/26 Regular meeting. Shaina presented on her summer work in Belize. She also shared food and drink. Alexa presented on her summer work on a Forest Service trail crew in Utah. Announcements of upcoming events. Shaina asked for more volunteers for committees and said that flannel shirts with embroidery would be a fundraiser. Next meeting 10/10

10/7 Walk in Penn’s Woods hike at Mont Alto State Park. Partnered with Friends of Mont Alto State Park. 13 people attended. Link.

10/10 Forestry Club meeting. The meeting was held after a federal jobs application workshop. Students were served pizza. Announcements.

11/1 Attended MD/DE SAF meeting at Allegany College of MD with four students. Linehan gave a brief presentation on how the forestry club works and what we do. Also participated in a panel discussion on forestry programs with ACM and WVU.

11/3 Students participated in a stream improvement project at Strawberry Hill Nature Preserve.

11/4 Participated in a tree planting project with the Alliance for the Bay at the Fayetteville Contractors site in Greencastle.

11/13 Forestry club meeting with pizza in room 204. AlumnusKayla Knauss gave a presentation on her work on trail-building at the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana

12/13 Joint meeting with the Woodsmen Team. Wrap-up meeting during finals. Bon voyage, but not farewell to Alexa! Thinking ahead to the Spring term.
