Cyberpunk 2077 was originally set to release on April 16th, 2020, but was delayed twice before finally releasing on December 10th, 2020. This game is an open-world RPG that was released for Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Google Stadia. Personally, I played this game on Playstation 4. This game has been developing since 2012, and has released content leading up to its release date for a while. As expected, many aspects of the game and content were changed within this 8 year period. Many fans of Cyberpunk 2077, especially the ones following the game from the beginning, were disappointed at its initial release. You begin this game by customizing your character or “V.” When it comes to character customization you can change your characters gender, voice, hair, facial features, and body. There are some flaws to this customization aspect, as you cannot choose individual piercings or tattoos, and the colors of certain features like nails and hair are strange. After customizing a character, features like hair, nails, and body accessories are permanent throughout the game which is upsetting as many open world RPG’s allow for customization throughout the game. You are also able to choose skills and perks that can be upgraded. After customizing your character, you choose a life path for your character which is supposed to affect your game. This choice only affects the very beginning of the game with the exception of a few dialogue options based off your life path throughout the game. The goal of this game is complete a main storyline accompanied by a longer story and side quests that are shorter and not as detailed in a place known as Night City. The overall story of this game is average and quite short. This may be because the game was released before it was fully developed, despite delays. The RPG aspect of this game is disappointing as most of the dialogue options and choices you make are not significant in changing the overall ending or storyline of the game. While this game is futuristic and fun to play it does not provide a long enough story with substance and features flaws in terms of customization. Upon initial release the game was immediately called out for its bugs and performance flaws. Personally, I was unable to fully complete my game because of this. Although there have been updates and patches available to fix bugs, the superficiality of the main story and lack of true RPG elements remains.
