Who would want to “Open Happiness” when it leads to everything but happiness? This slogan is from the 2009 Coca-Cola campaign in an effort to draw in more customers to their product. Everyone likes to enjoy a refreshing can of Coke every once in a while, but, have you ever sat and thought of all the troubles this drink can potentially bring to your life?
There has been much research regarding the negative health concerns that sugary soft drinks can cause. Just one single can of Coca-Cola has about 37 grams of sugar, equaling about 10 teaspoons of sugar. Of course, the Coca-Cola Company makes their disclaimer that the drink should be consumed in moderation. However, how can this drink be consumed in moderation when it can actually become addictive?
Coca-Cola has about 34 mg of caffeine in each can. While it is not as heavily concentrated with caffeine as a cup of coffee is, the overconsumption of this drink can start by making minor changes in your everyday life. It begins with small symptoms, like irregular sleeping patterns and difficulty concentrating. Before you know it, you are diagnosed with high blood pressure and are experiencing dental problems.
As I said before, everyone likes to enjoy a soft beverage occasionally; but is it actually worth the risks? Knowing that there are higher rates of heart disease and diabetes now more than ever, it is better to be safe than sorry. It is preferable to know that you are doing what you can to maintain your well-being. Instead of “Opening Happiness”, perhaps choose to open a water bottle. It’s for your own good. Thank you.
I love your pitch!! It is super intriguing and keeps the audience engaged. If you would like, you can go into more detail about how the word happiness and the short slogan persuades the reader. Keep up the great work 🙂
I really enjoy this topic! Your analysis of the slogan in relation to the reality of the product is interesting and you do a good job of explaining it. Nice work!
Awesome pitch, Michelle! Short, sweet, and to the point. I liked your inclusion of research to apply the slogan to the rhetorical situation of sugar consumption and its negative effects. I can’t wait to read more!!
Hi, Michelle! Great job on your pitch in class today! Your content was very great and I like how you contrasted the slogan with Coca-Cola’s actual adverse effects. The speech was easy to follow, as well. Your pace was a little fast, but overall great job! 🙂
You did a really good job Michelle! Your style and arrangement and was well executed, the only advice I’d give it to slow down the delivery and work on memorization. Otherwise really nice work!!
Fantastic pitch! I really liked the structure of your speech and think you did a great job of explaining the ingredients and properties of Coca-Cola, while keeping the speech easy to understand and engaging. You also have a killer closing!
Hi Michelle! I unfortunately missed the majority of your speech, but as the above comments show, I can guarantee your delivery and arrangement was awesome!!
