My speech performance definitely had its strengths and weaknesses, but I was content with my production considering I am not the best public speaker. My speech ended up changing from the beginning where I was going to speak about the Coca-Cola company slogan and resulted in my speech on a school shooting campaign. I am very glad that I decided to change my content because it made more sense in relation to the times we live in today. I feel like my old idea could have worked, but people might not have been able to connect to it in the way that I would have liked.
There were a few strengths that I noted in my speech. I think I was very educated on the topic that I was speaking about and I am very passionate about it. I think that having a connection to your work can really allow for great speech delivery. I also think that I spoke at a decent pace and kept eye contact with my audience. If anyone saw my elevator pitch at the beginning of the semester, you’d know that I speak extremely fast so I think I improved significantly in this aspect.
There were weaknesses in my speech as well. I think I failed to focus as much on the analysis of the video I was presenting more than anything else. I also added the entire video rather than a snippet, which was a technical mistake on my end. I am not good with editing so I just included the whole thing instead. My thought process was also that the audience would get the full effect of the video by watching it entirely, but this just took away from my delivery time and it ultimately made my speech too short. Lastly, I focused on explaining the definitions of my rhetorical devices rather than explaining the connection to the video and a full-on analysis. Now I know how I can better my content for future reference.
