Before this module I had no idea that clapping music was a real thing. Not only is it a real way of performing but it is considered a percussion ensemble. After learning about this I went and watched some clapping music performances and here was one I enjoyed.
One of my favorite brass instruments would have to be the trumpet. There are many different sounds and songs that the trumpet can create which interests me. I also enjoy how it can be played a fast pace and loud or it can be so relaxing that it puts you to sleep. There have also been many great trumpet players such as Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis.
I went out and found another video of the Canadian brass. I enjoyed watching them perform the Flight of the Bumblebee and it seems like an extremely difficult song to perform.
After reading the slides about string quartets and watching the cover videos, I went out and found a cover of a song that I really like. Enjoy
It was really interesting to see the difference between flutes and violins from the renaissance period compared to today. In the video it looked like the entire flutes were made of wood, where as in today’s time flutes are mostly made of brass. It was also interesting to see the size difference. In the renaissance period the violins and flutes were so much larger compared to the flutes and violins of today.
After doing this assignment, where we had to compare Copland’s Fanfare and John Williams’ Summon the Hero’s, I was able to learn a few things. One thing that really stood out to me was really listening to both songs and trying to spot out the contrast in each. The first time I listened to them I didn’t notice the contrast as much as I did after the assignment broke it down. It’s interesting now to go back and see how easy those contrast parts jump out.
There was actually a special tv episode titled ‘Bugs Bunny’s Overtures to Disaster’. Bugs Bunny is the conductor and at one point Porky Pig plays William Tells Overture. There is also something called ‘Bugs Bunny at the Symphony’, which is included in the link below. It’s interesting to see how many cartoons actually included overtures into their episodes.
I have heard of the Sound of Music before but I have never watched the film. So no I am not familiar with the individual songs that are used in the medley that is posted.
Another familiar fanfare that is in a movie is the fanfare in the opening of Star Wars. I feel like it’s one of the most recognizable intro’s to a movie and it was the first one that came to my mind while thinking of other movies that include a fanfare.
