Hey friends! Sadly, this is the last post of the semester:( Originally, I had a fancy post planned out — focused solely on desserts (let’s be real, no city trip is EVER complete without dessert). However, I took a city trip on our last wellness day, and plans have changed. I feel compelled to share my new finds with all of you — don’t worry there’s still plenty of sweet treats:)

For lunch, we found a cute little cafe — in West Village — called The Butcher’s Daughter. The location was extremely aesthetic and everything on the menu is vegan! They are known for their plant-based cafe + juice bar, and go by the name “vegetable slaughterhouse”. Don’t let this scare you! I got the Butcher’s Burger — which had a black-bean patty — and it did not disappoint!! They are also extremely well known for their smoothies and juices, if you plan to visit during breakfast.

Next up is Death by Pizza. I know. Pizza in NYC. Amazing.

BUT it gets better. Have you ever tried a nutella pizza? Well now’s your chance! While Death by Pizza serves regular pizzas, pastas, and calzones, we decided to go for something sweet. The Nutella Pizza consists of a classic homemade dough topped with nutella, strawberries, and whipped cream.

Another MUST try is Amorino Gelato. A cute shop tucked away in Greenwich Village, right on NYU’s campus. This place gave me summer vibes. Not only did they have regular gelato, but they also had fruity flavors — perfect for a pick-me-up.

To spice things up, they serve their gelato on a cone, in the shape of a flower! If you’re looking for a fruity kick to your gelato, I highly recommend the mango, strawberry, and banana flavors:)

I had so much fun trying these new spots and seriously hope you guys feel compelled to try them as well:) They were AMAZING!!

As I mentioned previously, I had originally planned on sharing more of my favorite dessert spots in the city. This includes Holey Cream, Levain Bakery, and Black Tap.

Holey Cream creatively combines two desserts into one: donuts + ice cream. They slice the donut of your choice, and put ice cream in the middle — creating a unique donut + ice cream sandwich. To top it off, you can choose the icing/glaze, and any other toppings you may want on your donut. Extremely helpful when you’re craving both and can’t pick!

Levain Bakery is known for their legendary cookies. Freshly baked, I can guarantee you have never had a better cookie. Even their cookies are photogenic!

Black Tap is a classic burger joint, but they are truly known for their milkshakes. As I like to call it, it’s basically diabetes in a cup. In my opinion, their burgers are simply average. I would recommend eating a snack prior and going for milkshakes, or ordering an array of their savory appetizers with the milkshake! Some may consider this place basic, but I think it’s worth a try!

I hope you guys enjoyed some of my personal insights and found these places as interesting as I do! As you can tell, I’m a BIG foodie and would love to provide more recommendations:)

On our next adventure, we’re going to start off with Cornerstone Cafe — ideal for a warm summer day!

Cornerstone Cafe is located in the East Village, with a variety of breakfast, lunch, BRUNCH, and dinner options. Their interior is mostly black with bricks and some string lights strung from the ceiling — a perfectly rustic aesthetic!

My favorites include their brunch sandwiches and paninis! Along with that, make sure to pair your meal with one of their top-notch smoothies — a MUST during the summer 🙂

Next up is my absolute favorite burger place in all of New York City: BareBurger.

BareBurger is a chain restaurant, however, it definitely does not disappoint. Despite the plethora of restaurants to choose from in NYC, I visit BareBurger at least once a year… now that’s saying something.

For those who are familiar with Zinburger (I’m not sure if this is a New Jersey thing… LOL), BareBurger is extremely similar. Their mission is to use local, organic, all natural and sustainable ingredients whenever possible. In fact, each BareBurger location is built with reclaimed and recycled materials!

Honestly, I love everything on their menu but if you decide to visit them, here are some things you should definitely try:

• a milkshake — they have so many different kinds, pick the one that you like best!
• a burger (obviously) — they have several burgers on their menu, but you can always create your own as well! I would highly recommend trying one of their house sauces with your burger (my personal fav is habanero mayo)!
• uptown fries — a fancy name for their truffle fries
• brussel sprouts — unfortunately, I don’t think they have these on their menu anymore, but it used to be an appetizer. It was the perfect mix of crispy + seasoned… I’m honestly very upset they don’t offer it anymore 🙁

You can’t leave NYC without dessert! If you like to nibble on cookie dough when baking cookies, this is the perfect spot for you!

dō is the original edible cookie dough shop in New York City! I’ve never seen their shop without a line flooding out the door. They offer a variety of cookie dough flavors which range from sweet to salty; make sure you keep an eye out for their seasonal flavors as well!

I hope these eatzz have convinced you to start planning your next trip to NYC:)

Next up is a New York City staple! Smorgasburg is an all-time-favorite and gives me major summer-time vibes!

Smorgasburg is the largest weekly open-air food market in America, attracting 20,000 to 30,000 people each weekend to eat from 100 local vendors. I’ve seen them set up in areas throughout Brooklyn and even by World Trade Center!

Personally, I think the idea is mind blowing! With over 23,000 restaurants in New York City (which would take 22.7 years to try), Smorgasburg sets up vendors for each affiliated establishment. At these vendors, they sell their most popular finger foods, keeping you satisfied, yet hungry enough to try the foods at other amazing vendors.

Some of my personal favorites finger foods from these vendors are the kebabs, mini sliders, waffles and ice cream, and their fresh-squeezed lemonade. On a hot summer day, these items HIT the spot:)

Smorgasburg even partners with various different events to bring food to the party. My favorite event has been one in Brooklyn, a couple of years ago. Located in Brooklyn Bridge Park (which has AMAZING views btw), Movies with a View brings a new outdoor movie, every Thursday night!

To say this experience was phenomenal, is an understatement!! Brooklyn Bridge Park is located right under the Brooklyn Bridge, facing the water and the New York City skyline. The evening started off with local DJ’s getting the party started. As the sun went down, we were able to help ourselves to the food, which was set up by the ocean-front and organized by Smorgasburg. When it was dark enough, the movie was turned on, boasting the beautiful New York skyline in the background. I wish COVID wasn’t a thing, just so I could go back:(

If you’re planning a city trip for this experience, an adventure tip would be to walk the Brooklyn Bridge! It goes from Manhattan into Brooklyn, and it’s just beautiful to see the skyline in its prime. Once the movie ended, me and a thousand other viewers walked the bridge back into the city — oddly, it was a great bonding experience.

Over the winter, it’s extremely hard to leave the warmth of our homes and go adventure outside. Adding the precautions of COVID-19 makes it increasingly difficult to spend a day out in New York City.

You may find yourself not wanting to ride the subway to get around town, dining at a restaurant, or even just dealing with the cold weather. While this does make it more challenging to leave our caves of warmth, it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the amazing food NYC has to offer!

If you prefer not being in contact with others, you’re in luck! More than 21,827 restaurants in the city are offering delivery if you would like a contact-less experience!

Now onto the food:)

A place I’ve actually visited in the midst of the pandemic, and now is one of my favorites, is Good Thanks Cafe. They have a cute outdoor seating area set up, with heaters on the roof to battle the winter chill!

Known for their coffee, they have a wide variety of options to choose from and even do coffee art, to add to your experience! I went with their Vanilla Latte, which did not disappoint, and their pulled-pork sandwich.

I absolutely LOVED the sandwich which had a unique sauce to uplift the taste, while the latte was the perfect drink to keep me warm. I would definitely go back:)

No city trip is complete without dessert. Ever. My all time favorite dessert spot in New York City is Dominique Ansel Bakery. A little bakery located in SoHo, they are well known for their invention of the cronut — a half croissant, half donut.

Their cronuts have been featured on the Today Show, Jimmy Fallon, and many other news outlets. While everything on their menu is amazing, my absolute favorite item are their cookie shots.

It’s a warm chocolate-chip cookie shaped like a shot-glass, and filled with their vanilla milk. As you eat it, the cookie absorbs some of the milk, making it cookie-heaven!!

There’s always a line to get into this bakery, but I’m sure you’ll come to the realization that it is worth the wait. If you go specifically to try their cookie shots, I must warn you that they only sell them after 3pm! Some other favorites from their menu include the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), Mini Madeleines, and their Blossoming Hot Chocolate (a flower marshmallow that blossoms from the heat of the hot chocolate).

For my first post, we’re going to start off with New York pizza … DUHHH!!!

I’m sure you’ve all heard about the famous “Brooklyn pizza”, and I’m here to tell you, yes. Yes, it truly is worth ALL of the hype.

Di Fara Pizza is known as the best pizzeria in New York City — and it stays true to its word. The wait to eat here is can be crazy (all of the time), but as thousands attest, “it is well-worth the wait”.

It was opened by Domenico De Marco, “Dom”, in 1965 after he emigrated to NYC from Italy. He has spent 53 years perfecting his skill, and each pie is handcrafted by him. At the age of 82, Dom still works in the kitchen, along with the help of his children. Di Fara Pizza is still a family owned and operated business.

Brooklyn is known for their breath-taking sites… and obviously their pizza! While you’re grabbing some food, I highly recommend you take a walk to DUMBO and possibly explore the Brooklyn Bridge. During the evenings, live music fills the air as the city lights turn on. The Manhattan skyline can be seen perfectly and will make for the perfect photo-op:)

However, you can’t leave NYC without stopping for dessert first!!

Next up, we have OddFellows Ice Cream. It was founded when Mr. Kumar needed to “find a fix” for his wife’s strange pregnancy cravings. His friend, Chef Sam, was able to throw together a few containers of pretzel ice cream to help curb her cravings. Mr. Kumar’s wife loved it so much that the trio decided to share their recipes with the world!

Known for their crazy ice cream flavors, OddFellows has “concocted more than 500 wacky and weird flavors alongside reimagined and improved classics”, since they opened in 2013.

My favorite flavors are from their “Classics Collection” — I know… #basic… but trust me, their ice cream is like no other. Even the sweet cream vanilla is the creamiest and smoothest I’ve ever had!
