stay safe + eat good

Over the winter, it’s extremely hard to leave the warmth of our homes and go adventure outside. Adding the precautions of COVID-19 makes it increasingly difficult to spend a day out in New York City.

You may find yourself not wanting to ride the subway to get around town, dining at a restaurant, or even just dealing with the cold weather. While this does make it more challenging to leave our caves of warmth, it doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy the amazing food NYC has to offer!

If you prefer not being in contact with others, you’re in luck! More than 21,827 restaurants in the city are offering delivery if you would like a contact-less experience!

Now onto the food:)

A place I’ve actually visited in the midst of the pandemic, and now is one of my favorites, is Good Thanks Cafe. They have a cute outdoor seating area set up, with heaters on the roof to battle the winter chill!

Known for their coffee, they have a wide variety of options to choose from and even do coffee art, to add to your experience! I went with their Vanilla Latte, which did not disappoint, and their pulled-pork sandwich.

I absolutely LOVED the sandwich which had a unique sauce to uplift the taste, while the latte was the perfect drink to keep me warm. I would definitely go back:)

No city trip is complete without dessert. Ever. My all time favorite dessert spot in New York City is Dominique Ansel Bakery. A little bakery located in SoHo, they are well known for their invention of the cronut — a half croissant, half donut.

Their cronuts have been featured on the Today Show, Jimmy Fallon, and many other news outlets. While everything on their menu is amazing, my absolute favorite item are their cookie shots.

It’s a warm chocolate-chip cookie shaped like a shot-glass, and filled with their vanilla milk. As you eat it, the cookie absorbs some of the milk, making it cookie-heaven!!

There’s always a line to get into this bakery, but I’m sure you’ll come to the realization that it is worth the wait. If you go specifically to try their cookie shots, I must warn you that they only sell them after 3pm! Some other favorites from their menu include the DKA (Dominique’s Kouign Amann), Mini Madeleines, and their Blossoming Hot Chocolate (a flower marshmallow that blossoms from the heat of the hot chocolate).

I hope you decide to try some of these treats the next time you’re in New York City! They truly are some of my favorites:)

6 Thoughts.

  1. First off, I wish I had found your blog sooner because I am a huge foodie and am always looking for new places to try. While I was reading through your post, as soon as I saw the word cronut, I knew I had to keep reading this blog. Cronuts are amazing but have you ever had cronut that was a chocolate croissant and chocolate doughnut mashup- amazing! One of my favorite desserts is also the cookie shot. It’s honestly just an amazing creation, so kudos to whoever invented that delicious dessert. And it’s filled with vanilla milk; sign me up!

  2. I want to go out to eat at both of these places now! The coffee shop sounds so cute with the coffee art and sandwiches– its great that they could figure out a way to have outdoor seating! I am absolutely dying to go to try a cronut now. I looked up a picture because I wasn’t exactly sure what it was, and it looks delicious. And to think you can get it at the same place you can get cookie shots (it doesn’t get much better than chocolate chip cookies and milk) and blossoming hot chocolate (a blossoming marshmallow flower? Wow!) is amazing! I have already decided that it is worth the wait to give this place a try.

  3. Oh my goodness you are making me hungry… You had me at the coffee art but then it proceeded to get more and more fascinating. I have to make sure to make a note of these places you are telling me about because I really want to try them. The most alluring treat you brought up was that cookie shot. That is a genius invention. Whoever came up with such a wonderful idea deserves a fat raise. I really want to get my hands on one of those. I can just imagine how delicious that would be warm. I would also like to add that coffee art mesmerizes me. I am not the biggest coffee drinker but I would order one just for the aesthetic if I am to be completely honest!

  4. I have never heard of Good Thanks Cafe but it sounds so delicious and satisfying. Since I traveled to Italy, I have been seeking out a great coffee place to try. Nothing seems to match the crazy addictive cappuccinos that the make. One of the gym teachers I had used to make homemade cronuts and I cannot forget the taste. It sounds like I have to try out your recommendation to be further blown away. I believe that if a line is out the door it has to be worth the wait!

  5. Woah is that really a cookie wrapped around a s’more? That’s crazy I need to try that! Great idea for a topic to write about you must know a lot about your local restaurants. One thing which I immediately appreciated about your site was the aesthetic you created. This page looks really pretty good job. This blog can be really helpful because I am sure many people in NYC did not know where to get food from once the pandemic hit. If only this post came out a few months earlier it would blow up!

  6. Oh my goodness, this blog is now one of my favorites! I love food (my blog is actually about baking new dessert recipes from around the world)! I really wish I would have found your blog sooner… but maybe not, since now I am hungry and longing for some great New York food!! My family actually lives in New York and the food I miss the most is bagels. There is something about a nice, warm bagel from an amazing Jewish deli. Have you ever eaten NY bagels?? Overall, I love this blog and I am looking forward to future posts!!!
