Throughout high school and up until my early 20s something I majorly struggled with was acne. And the worst part was, I was doing everything right! I ate healthily, I drank lots of water, I washed my face every morning and at nighttime, I always took my makeup off before bed, I went to the dermatologist, etc. Basically, I was doing everything recommended to have healthy skin but my acne would not go away. The dermatologists would prescribe antibiotics and topical face creams and these would work for some time, but eventually, my skin would get used to them and my acne would come back. It was a very frustrating time for me. At some point, I just accepted the fact that I had bad skin and there was nothing I could do except hope that it would go away as I got older.
Then, a friend told me that she had tried all-natural skin products to get rid of her own acne. She said that the harsh chemicals in the creams and face cleansers she was using before had been drying out and irritating her skin – thus further continuing the cycle of acne. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose in trying something new. So I went online and bought a few products from Alaffia, Mad Hippie and Dr. Mercola to try out. I was shocked at the results! Within a few weeks, my acne and dark spots started to clear up. Not only that, but my skin was glowing! It no longer looked dry and irritated but instead, it looked healthy. After about two months of using these products, my skin cleared up completely. My skin was so good I could finally go out without makeup on.
But I didn’t stop there. When I was going to wear makeup, I knew I should continue to use all-natural products since my old makeup was definitely a source of breakouts for me. Therefore, I did some research and decided to go with some Jane Iredale products since they offer simple products with all-natural and minimal ingredients. These products have definitely kept my skin from breaking out on the days I want to wear makeup.
Skin is your body’s largest organ and your protective barrier. However, that doesn’t mean it’s impervious or impenetrable. It is important to be aware of what you’re exposing it to. If you put dangerous ingredients on your skin, they get into your body — exactly where you don’t want them. Think about all of the potential irritants that come in contact with your skin — chemical-laden personal hygiene products, fragrances, deodorant; the list goes on and on. Abiding by an organic skin-care routine and using natural skin-care products will help your skin feel and look healthier than ever before.
