American Horror story or AHS, is just overall trippy and very good. Each season is conceived of mini-stories that are mainly horror based. These stories follow a different set of characters and settings, and a storyline with its own beginning, middle, and end. Some plot elements of each season are loosely inspired by true events. The whole of the seasons utilize the same actors and actresses for the most part, and it shows the vast capabilities of acting they are able to embody.
The seasons consist of and in this order are; Murder House, Asylum, Coven, Freak show, Hotel, Roanoke, Cult, Apocalypse, 1984. I have seen them all and would say that each one has something special about it that captures the attention of the audience and allows for some good binge-worthy content. There is a mix of romance, craziness, confusion, and more within the seasons. You always have an expectation through the trailers on what you think will happen but overall there are so many what the hell moments that occur and keep you wanting more.
The reviews from the audience have been mainly positive and people can not get enough. It has a 79% on rotten tomatoes, 8.6/10 on TV.com and 8.1/10 on IMDb. Each season was reviewed individually, I will share a view reviews and my thoughts on each season throughout the next few paragraphs.
Murder House was one of the best ones in my opinion, it was honestly creepy and weird. “I just need more for my viewing pleasure than a furrowed brow. The aim of a series can’t be solely to leave viewers asking WTF at the end of every episode, or, heck, every scene.” – Matt Richardson. This is so true, you never know if the ending will give you fulfillment or if you are going to be infuriated at the lack of conclusion you get.
Asylum was one that I was not really into as much as it did not give me the thrill i needed. ” Asylum is filled with plenty of dark secrets, sinister twists, and unexpected turns – but unfortunately the one thing this psychologically invading season lacks is a thoughtful explanation.” – Matt Donato. I agree with Matt, everything was good and decent but the lack of explanation at all was really icky.
Coven was hands down in my top three favorites. I don’t know if its because I’m biased and enjoy a trippy witch thing but I loved it. ” But unlike the series’ first two iterations, Murder House and Asylum, Coven has finally figured out a way to incorporate feminism convincingly into the DNA of American Horror Story.” – Allison Herman. The addition of a strong female take for a whole season was great.
Freak Show is exactly what it sounds like, in all its glory it was awesome and the freaks were so creepy and thrilling. Hotel was next and was decent in comparison to the others, I wasn’t that into it and it was very confusing. Roanoke was pure horror and had a documentary felt. Cult added Trump’s election to this to give it the true horror needed and the addition of other true horrors in life. Apocalypse was almost not it, it seemed like it ran out of steam of creativity but did not lack comedy. 1984 was more of an old horror feeling as you can tell from the name, it’s a hit or miss for you pending how you feel on the other seasons.
Now that I have significantly fewer time commitments and responsibilities, I think I’ll try to watch AHS. I don’t like scary stuff, but I am a big fan of the occult and “creepy” things. I’m especially excited to watch Coven, as I was supposed to help run somewhat of a Coven “role-play” type event for Model UN (I swear it’s not as weird as it sounds).
It amazes me how some people like you can make it through all of the seasons of American Horror Story, or shows like it – I could never watch this show as I have a very low tolerance for horror movies/shows. I had no idea that this show had any political elements to it, but I think it’s interesting (and probably more entertaining) that the producers chose to include Trump’s election into one of the seasons.
