Mid-season premiere predictions: “Sound of Silence”

The previous episode of Grey’s Anatomy left us with plenty of cliffhangers to keep us waiting until February 11th. With the ninth episode of the season coming out next week, there’s plenty of speculation going around. According to press releases and promos, Meredith will get brutally attacked next week by a patient, and Penny will be the one to discover her.

The promo shows Meredith going to check up on a patient, who is clearly unstable. The patient is out of control and smashes Meredith against the door and hits her, and she gets injured pretty badly. After that, Penny apparently finds her and Richard, Alex, Maggie, and Amelia all try to help Meredith out. It also shows that she is unable to listen to anything for a while.

According to several press releases, this episode is supposed to be emotionally charged and intense, and some of the cast members have said that it feels a lot like a season finale instead of just a mid-season premiere. This scared some of the fans, who think that if Shonda is capable of releasing an episode like this one as a mid-season premiere, the season finale is likely to be horrible. It’s also a little ironic since Shonda said this was supposed to be a “lighter” season, but so far it’s been pretty dramatic and emotional, with a few lighter moments.

As for the other storylines, we probably won’t get to find out what happened between Jackson and April and Alex and Jo until later episodes. Several sources have said that we might be able to find out what happened on the 11th episode, “All I want is you”, but it’s unclear whether this episode will be about “Jolex” or “Japril.” As for Nathan and Owen, sources have also revealed that we won’t find out what happened between them for a few episodes.

In my opinion, I think Meredith has already been through way too much to make this assault seem believable. She’s survived a bomb, almost drowning, a shooting, a plane crash, pregnancy complications, her husband, sister, and mother dying, and now an assault? Are we supposed to believe she’s immortal and somehow all these horrible things keep happening to her? I guess it’s a dramatic TV show and we’re not meant to be taking it too seriously, but most fans can agree it’s getting a little ridiculous.

Some fans also think that Shonda is using this as an opportunity to redeem Penny’s character. Since she’s the one who finds Meredith, it’s possible that she’ll be the one to order a head CT, and therefore “redeem” her character. Personally, I don’t want this to happen because I hate Penny’s character and I don’t want her to become a series regular. I know I’m not the only one who thinks this, so hopefully Shonda won’t decide to renew her contract and Penny will be gone soon. Either way, next week’s episode seems like it’s going to be extremely dramatic and emotional, so if you’re planning on watching be prepared for that.

  1. This is interesting to hear about. I personally do not watch Grey’s Anatomy but I know a good number of people who love the show and so it is interesting to get an insider’s perspective regarding the up and coming episodes. This is especially intriguing considering I too have seen the commercials for this episode and have to say that I was wondering what was happening myself. I certainly hope it will be a good episode for you and everyone who watches, and I guess we’ll just have to see what happens!
