12×14: “Odd Man Out” Recap

The 14th episode of the 12th season of Grey’s Anatomy had a good mixture of interesting surgical cases as well as the usual personal drama. The episode starts out with Richard noticing that the residents and attendings have all been pairing up for a long time now. Jo is working with Callie in Ortho, Penny is working with Meredith in General, Steph with Amelia in Neuro, and Ben with Jackson in Plastics. Richard decides that he needs to switch up the resident pairings, which makes things interesting for this episode.

Penny gets Amelia, who hates her for what happened with Derek, while Jo gets Meredith, who seems like she can’t stand her. Jo doesn’t want to be in Meredith’s service because she says Meredith treats her like crap, doesn’t take her seriously, and doesn’t support her relationship with Alex. Jo keeps whining about it to Steph, who tells her that she just needs to confront Meredith because she is tired of listening her talk about it.

Meredith is also conflicted about what to do with Dr. Thorpe. Apparently Thorpe has been calling and texting Meredith all day long asking her out, but Meredith ignored him. She tells Maggie and Callie that she’s planning on not going out with him. Maggie and Callie encourage her to give Thorpe a chance and tell her that eventually she has to get back there.

Meanwhile, Ben gets assigned to Arizona’s service, and they treat a pregnant woman with quadruplets. The woman is a tax attorney, and she gives Ben and Bailey advice on their taxes. This causes some tension between Ben and Bailey, since he is uncomfortable that Bailey makes a lot more money than him.

Arizona keeps asking April to tell Jackson or to let her at least run some tests on the baby but April refuses to do it. Arizona is really worried about April, so she talks to Alex in hopes that he’ll be able to convince her, and Alex says he’ll talk to her.

Jo finally confronts Meredith and yells at her that she doesn’t respect her and doesn’t take her seriously. Meredith doesn’t really react, but then after talking to Callie and Maggie, she realizes that maybe she hasn’t been fair to Jo. Meredith talks to Jo and says that she only acted that way because she is protective over Alex and she feels responsible for him. After that, Meredith goes outside and Thorpe is waiting for her. He asks her out again and the scene ends with Meredith contemplating what to answer.

April is still conflicted on whether to tell Jackson or not about the baby, since she doesn’t want Jackson to go through what he went through with Samuel. She finally decides to tell him, and goes looking for him. She opens the door to the lab and finds Arizona and Jackson talking. Jackson looks at her and he says, “So when were you planning on telling me you were pregnant.” April is shocked and looks at Arizona like she betrayed her. This was a really shocking moment for us viewers too since we didn’t expect Jackson to find out that way. All I know is that I’m sure we haven’t heard the end of this April/Jackson baby drama.
