12×15: “I Am Not Waiting Anymore” Recap

The 15th episode of the season finally gave fans a much needed break from the gloom and doom of Grey’s Anatomy by giving us a (somewhat) lighthearted episode. Every Grey’s Anatomy fan is aware of the intense level of  dramatic moments orchestrated by the head show writer, Shonda Rhimes, so it’s always nice to get a little break from the craziness that is Shondaland.

The episode started with Meredith and Thorpe still talking, and Meredith contemplating what to say. They are interrupted by Maggie, who awkwardly says “Oh! You are the Thorpe.” Meredith tells her to leave, and she finally responds that she will go out to get drinks with him but she might change her mind. She goes inside to meet Alex and Maggie for a 12 hour long multiple transplant surgery.

Before that, she goes to the restroom where she meets Callie and they talk about dating again after being married. Callie says that at first it feels weird but then it feels really good to get back out there and meet new people. As Callie enters one of the stalls, Meredith thinks the conversation is over and leaves. Callie doesn’t know that Meredith left and instead Chief Bailey walked in. She continues talking about personal stuff, unaware that Bailey is standing outside listening looking really confused. It’s a really funny moment for us viewers since it highlighted the socially awkward and funny aspect of Callie’s personality we haven’t seen in a while. Once she exits the stall, she is embarrassed to discover that Meredith is gone and instead Bailey is out there.

Meanwhile during the transplant, Meredith keeps going back on forth on her decision to go out with Thorpe. She thinks that she’s not ready to do it but at the same time others keep telling her that it’s a good idea to get out there. Maggie and Alex get into an amusing debate over it while they are doing the transplant. Alex says that Meredith shouldn’t go out with Thorpe if she doesn’t want to, while Maggie is encouraging Meredith to go out with Thorpe since she thinks she is ready and she says Thorpe is good looking. There are some really funny interactions between Alex and Maggie, who keep bickering like little kids. They even make faces at each other while, Meredith isn’t looking, and she says “Stop it you two, I have three children, I know you’re making faces at each other.”

Meanwhile, things are tense between April and Jackson. They have a screaming match in the ER and it seems like they can’t come to an agreement. Arizona feels really guilty for what she did throughout the episode and goes to Callie, Bailey, and Amelia for help to try and get some advice to make things better with April, who is extremely mad at her. On the other hand, things are still tense between Owen and Riggs, but what’s new? I don’t think anyone cares about those two anymore.

Meredith finally decides to go out with Thorpe, but they don’t really go out. Instead, they get food from drive thru and eat in the car while they talk. It looks like both of them had a good time, so we’ll see what happens later on between those two.

Overall, I really liked this episode and I think most people did too. It showed the amusing side of Grey’s that we haven’t seen in a while, which probably means the next episode are going to make us cry.
