La Sagrada Familia

After living in Barcelona for over 3 months I finally got the chance to walk inside the Antonio Gaudi’s most famous work, La Sagrada Familia. I tried to go in August with my mother, but the tickets were all sold out! At least I was lucky enough to admire the outside of the church twice during my study abroad experience. My friend Katie and I bought tickets and were surprised how expensive a student ticket was, 13 euro to be exact! (Katie jokingly asked if the ticket also came with a drink). The visit was definitely worth the money. Every square inch of that place is illuminated by natural light of different colors. My favorite was the orange stained glass windows. When light emitted through them I felt like I was watching a beautiful sun about to set. Everything about the inside of La Sagrada Familia was everything I’ve hoped for and more. Reading about Gaudi’s dedication to this structure is inspiring as well. He definately put his heart and soul into this cathedral before he died. I was also surprised to learn the history of the architecture as well. I had no idea that in the early 1900s there was a fire and the building had to be renovated. La Sagrada Familia is truly Gaudi’s best work and not enough pictures can depict how beautiful this architecture is.
