Lesson 12 Blog Reflection

In recent years, I have noticed a pattern of groupthink among businesses in their operational approaches. The pandemic necessitated remote work for all companies, and subsequently, many of them decided to maintain this practice indefinitely. In fact, some even advertised remote work as a job benefit. They cited various articles that pointed out the benefits of working from home, including increased productivity, greater comfort, and lower expenses. These ideas were popularized by tech giants such as Google, Apple, Amazon, and Meta, and many smaller companies followed them. However, in recent times, some of these major tech companies have announced their intention to return to on-site work. This shift has led to a reversal of opinions, with them  now citing research and articles that suggest on-site work is more advantageous for employees. In my opinion, it seems highly likely that the decisions made by the big tech companies will cause groupthink.

Hi there! This is a great example, and I’ve seen this in my current organization as well. Interestingly, it is driven by people at the board level. I work for an organization whose board members are members of a fraternity. It is safe to say they are a bit “old school” and truly believe that people cannot work remotely. Thanks, Angela
