PAS4: The Queen of K-Pop Chart

IU

Since 2010, the 29-year-old megastar IU (pronounced “eye-you”) has spent more weeks at the top of the Korean charts than any other performer. She outsold some of the best-selling K-pop bands of all time, including BTS, Girls’ Generation, and Big Bang. The success of IU is largely attributable to her unadulterated image. Celebrity holiness is valued in Korean culture, and scandals are strongly disapproved of. Never has IU made a mistake. Koreans gave her the nickname “Nation’s Little Sister” due to her impeccable behavior, but IU has always rejected the title.

Long before she was even a trainee, IU was having difficulties. At a young age, she and her brother were forced to relocate to her grandmother’s home in the Gyeonggi province, where she shared a room with two of her cousins, whom she grew up with and now views as her sisters. Her family had to disperse while things improved, and she spent several years away from her parents due to the severe financial condition her family encountered after her father’s business initiative collapsed.

After 20 auditions, IU was still rejected by many agencies in her quest to get hired as a trainee. As if that weren’t enough, she was also duped by entertainment businesses that turned out to be phony. The organization promised IU that in exchange for the money, they would give her a training program and assist her in getting on TV. Unfortunately, the agency did not deliver on its promises to IU. The thief took off with the cash, leaving IU with nothing. IU was devastated. Her grandmother’s savings were the money she lost. To support IU in continuing her job, her grandmother saved some money from selling modest handmade trinkets at the market.

IU never gave up on chasing her dream of becoming an idol. Eventually, a small company named LOEN Entertainment accepted her. It was amazing for IU to spend time in the rehearsal room and dine in her company, given the terrible surroundings she lived in; after ten months, she was prepared to make her stage debut. Her first debut song wasn’t a great success, but she kept trying and working hard until she eventually gained more popularity and recognition.

Good things do come to those who wait and persevere, as demonstrated by this life story of IU. The definition of giving up in IU’s life is nonexistent. To get what she wants most, the attractive girl keeps swimming. IU is aware that she was made for it and works hard for it. IU has achieved many things now thanks to her perseverance, bravery, and hard work.
