RCL4: MAKE LYING WRONG AGAIN

Make Lying wrong again hat, cap

‘Make Lying Wrong Again’
Hmm… sounds familiar?

If you search it up, you’ll find that this slogan can be seen on a cap, t-shirts, and even bumper stickers. It took some minutes for me to understand, but I believe this is a parody of Donald Trump’s political slogan, “Make America Great Again.”

“Make America Great Again,” or MAGA is a political catchphrase in use in the United States that was made popular by Donald Trump during his successful presidential campaign in 2016. The catchphrase became a pop cultural phenomenon, being used widely and inspiring a variety of variations in politics, media, and the arts by both supporters and detractors of Donald Trump’s leadership.

Donald Trump used the hashtags #makeamericagreatagain and its acronym #maga to spread the campaign slogan on social media, notably on Twitter. Trump defended himself on Twitter after being criticized for his frequent and unconventional use of social media.

“My use of social media is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL. Make America Great Again!” – Donald Trump, on his Twitter, July 1, 2017.

In the first half of 2017, Trump repeated his slogan on Twitter 33 times. Regression research reveals the phrase adds (very approximately) 51,000 to a post’s retweet-and-favorite count, which is significant given that the typical Trump tweet garners 107,000 reactions, according to Mark Whitehouse in a story for Bloomberg News.

The “#MakeAmericaGreatAgain” and “#MAGA” hashtags were frequently used by white supremacist and white nationalist users and had been used as “an organizing discursive space” for far-right extremists worldwide, according to a 2018 study using text mining and semantic network analytics of Twitter text and hashtag networks (“The Communicative Constitution of Hate Organizations Online: A Semantic Network Analysis of ‘Make America Great Again’”).

Trump frequently wore caps with the slogan embroidered on them throughout the 2016 campaign, which helped the catchphrase gain popularity among his fans. The campaign’s slogan was so crucial that at one point, more money was spent on creating the hats, which were sold for $25 each on its website, than on polls, consultants, or television ads. According to Trump, millions of them were sold, and there were ten to one more fakes than genuine hats. “But that was just a catchphrase, and that’s an advertisement every time someone buys one,” that’s what he said.

I believe everyone has seen the original cap. Well, I’m not even from America, but I’ve seen the cap multiple times on the Internet.

Looking at the ‘Make Lying Wrong Again’ cap, we can totally see the way it is trying to mock the original ‘Make America Great Again’ cap. Even the color is red, just like the original cap.
