Come on, that’s the best you’ve got? What’s wrong with this post?
- For starters, look at the title! Or rather, lack of one. There’s no context for what we’re about to see.
- Next, the writing. Tells us nothing about the work, about the author, what they think about the process of making it, anything really. And the writing, such as it is, is probably best placed after the work, not before.
- Now, the media content. So many things wrong with this:
- Well, it’s not even a link, it’s a URL as text. What are we supposed to do, copy and paste this into a new browser window address bar? Who does that?
- Even if it were a link, it would be a long and ugly unformatted one. Wrap this link inside a descriptive text at least…
- … except this link leads to a media asset! Always embed your pics, vids, and other media content. A link is not enough here.
- Oh, and incidentally — this isn’t even the right URL! It leads to the author’s Express dashboard, not the video! Is the author expecting us to log into their account and edit this?
- We’re not done. There’s no citations to any source that helped the author make this work. That’s bad academic form, and even worse netiquette.
- Finally, there are no Categories assigned. Look below this text and you’ll see the WordPress default: Uncategorized. Not useful! In a site filled with posts like this, the audience cannot find this one — although, there’s not much to see when they do!
This post took less than 30 seconds to make, and it shows. It won’t even earn on-time posting credit if submitted by the due date because it is not really offered as a good faith effort to follow best practice as described in the Canvas module.
