In this tutorial, I will be teaching you how to understand some simple ways of creating environments using Aseprite. If you are curious about how to adjust your color palette, click on this link.
So, the first tool I will be introducing is the Tiled Mode: Tiled in Both Axes for making tiles because tiles are very important in tilemaps and it will be much easier when you want things to be done.
This tool will turn our cursor into a nine- point cursor because the patterns you will be creating can repeat over and over again. When you finish make the tile, select the tile and click ctrl B so tile can be pasted on to anywhere your cursor goes. If your project deals with a lot of backgrounds, this way will be simple and easier to work with.
There are Tiled in X Axes amd Tiled in Y axes which it is good for platforms:
- The Tiled in X Axes deals with bottom and the top of platforms
- The Tiled in Y Axes are the sides of the platforms
These are some examples:
When creating features for your tilemap, you can use a tool such as Horizontal Symmetry tool to make objects symmetal like a clock or lights.
Next, Flip Horizontal and Vertical can position your objects differently so you do not have to create more features but you can arrange them differently like a platform or an object you need to duplicate a lot of times.
- Another similar tool is the Rotate tool which you can rotato in an angle but it is different from Rotate Canvas because we are rotating only the object that is selected.
