Gloria Week#9 & 10

Week# 9:

I actually didn’t do a lot in class because wednesday was campus shutdown so a lot of stuff happen last week. I did the bed and  I assembled the room together at the end of the week. It was fun designing a pixelated room because I haven’t done anything like this and Tony was afraid that his sprites would be too big when inporting into the room. He really like to think about problem before hand which mean he is very cautious but I was happy that I did the room.

Week# 10:

I have been working on the hallway which i was not sure what mansion reference I should use. I did wanted a grandfather clock in the hallway because I can make a simple animation when the clock is ticking. I was certain to have lights in the hallway as well and was brainstorming what kind of lights should it be. There was some confusions when Tony looked at the hallway and he thought we should have another hallway where the butler and maids can come into play.

Gloria Week # 7& 8

Week# 7:

This week I was working on the interiors of the Aoi’s mansion. I was doing toward old mansion design and forgot about the futuristic part of the story. I did a grandfather clock and animated the pendulum moving. I did researched some lighting for a futuristic mansion and designed some lights. It was sorta hard for me to make interiors pixelated especially for the chandelier because of details and shine. I also need to remember the bitting for each interior in order to fix them inside the room and hallways.

Week#8:

Cromar discussed with us about creating a list for us to keep track on what we need to do. I think it is good idea because I have a lot of interior work for the tile map and keeping track will help me organize my job. At first, I wasn’t like Tony who made his list fantasy but of course, I followed him so we can be the same and it will look nice.

Gloria Week# 5 & 6

Week # 5:

This week I had a bit of time to make the tile set for the presentation and showing how much work I did by doing so. It was very interesting to know the difference between tilemap and tileset because Tony and I were confused with the terms. Even thou, we can not use the tilemap I did in 16 bits, but some of the crops can be used like the tiles I created. It was intense when Tony and I were presenting because I was presenting the thesis and my part of the project.

Week # 6:

This week I was discussing with Tony about how will the mansion will look like and I researched the interior of old mansion as well. I started to created wood tile and knowing what bit I should do in each scene. We were searching up some pixelated games as to define Tony’s point of view. I did some sketches in my sketchbook so I can brainstorm some ideas for the introduction in the video.

Weekly Blog #6: Future Goals

So far, I’ve accumulated 7 tasks for myself and possibly for my partner. Some of them are quite easier than the rest… but I wouldn’t say they can be finished in one day either. The number of monsters and miniboss will be enough for the video considering that the gameplay video will come and go at a very fast pace. Of course, my bosses are still relevant and will still show in the video (with new recolored sprites).

What I mean by “adding content on wallpaper” is that they will be more things to look at to show more of an aesthetic feel, even though it is purely pixelated as you can in the image above. Sound effects will not be professionally made, since we are new to everything with this, and will probably sound weird. It will consist of monster death noise, attacks, etc. to feel like a game. I would like to say with current pixelated game trailers that not all of them have sound effects in them and just the music itself which I can understand why; it won’t be a guarantee that they will be sound on every clip.

The most difficult task for me will be learning Adobe After Effects (typo on the image, whoops). After all, I can see that not everything will be possible to be animated only in Aseprite, I would most likely need to help and support of Adobe, like it or not.

That’s it for this weekly blog! Next blog will be introducing more of my character sprites.

See you next time!

Tony

Weekly Blog #5: Critique

Everything that we have constructed so far will be shown in the presentation.

It talks about the basics of the Aseprite program, a short speed animate video, a demo storyboard, and tiles.

Weekly Blog #4: Storyboard

Hello! Tony here!

I would like to say first that the storyboard is not FINAL and have a huge possibility of being changed and improved on.

The music is set in a specific type of order. At the beginning of the trailer, I want the music to be quite mysterious; you wouldn’t know what is going on right now and you are currently investigating the character’s surroundings. It transitions to more of a happy tone to give a sense of tranquility. Nothing, so far, has built up yet and you are seeing that the person in view is having a relaxing time walking around. As the main character starts to build up the story, the music changes its tone to more of a dark tone – this is where the trailer really shows its true value. It features platformer action fighting with monsters, environmental hazards, and dialogue. It will transition to even more of a dark, evil tone to show that it is not a happy merry-go-around situation, the game is portraying as a sinister fighting game with relaxing elements in the mix coming from the overhead view.

Next week’s blog will be the mid-critique powerpoint that shows all our progress!

See you next time!

Tony
