The first of my ideas for a passion blog is a series of posts about mechanical keyboards. There is actually a fairly long and interesting history of how computer keyboards arrived at their current state, and for almost 20 years people who spend a lot of time at a computer – either for work or leisure – have sought after keyboards that are catered to their needs. Due to the advent of more advanced production techniques, the components that are used to assemble keyboards became more readily available, which provided a springboard for the development of a now popular hobby: the making of custom mechanical keyboards. This is a hobby that I took up toward the beginning of quarantine as I was spending a lot of time gaming and doing schoolwork in my room. All of the popular market products had their own set of flaws, and I couldn’t seem to find a keyboard that I really liked. After doing a couple hours of research I realized that while the popular brands were using ‘premium’ components when compared to an office keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard, they all utilized clones of the exact same, or very similar parts, which caused a deceiving amount of variety within the market when really there was none. All of the products were, potentially inadvertently, engineered to look, feel, sound, and respond exactly the same. I did many more hours of research before I finally decided to build my own keyboard, and after that I never looked back. The one thing I know, though, is that all of that information was not easy to find, and it was complicated to say the least. I would like this blog to simplify some of the potentially confusing elements of mechanical keyboards, as well as provide some of the unique insight I have gained throughout the process, and my opinions about certain products as well.
The second idea I have is to make a blog about streetwear and shoes. It would be more of a commentary on clothing/shoe releases I see, rather than a styling guide or something. The types of clothes I wear have evolved dramatically over the years, and as a result I have become more interested in not only clothing, but also the way it can tell me so much about people and vice versa. While I am slightly less passionate about this idea than the previous one, I do feel as though it would be more palatable and come off as more relatable to an audience. I also think that coming up with the topics of individual posts would be easier, and as a result give the blog a less rigid and more personal, spontaneous feel.
I like the thought of both ideas. From reading your descriptions of both, it definitely seems like you are more passionate towards the mechanical keyboards so I would support that decision. However, the streetwear and shoes would be a really cool topic to talk about too, and it would be fun reading about it weekly as well.
I totally agree with your conclusion. It’s clear that you’re extremely passionate about the keyboard topic, but you recognize a blog related to streetware may feel more personal. I think it’s harder to add a creative flare on such a technical topic as keyboards, but I encourage you to go for the thing you love more! Sounds like you are very knowledgable on the topic and won’t run out of content 🙂
This idea about talking about mechanical keyboard is pretty strange topic yet it’s so cool and interesting. I thin you could implement the concept of the evolution of the keyboards and explaining why some of these confusing elements have came to be. Is there historical context? Did something happen that changed that specific element? Are the variations? I think it’d be helpful to include the background context as well.
