This post will be a fairly simple one; we wont really be discussing anything that technical at all. Rather I figured we’d keep this one pretty light, and go over some of the best GMK keycap sets – in my opinion, of course. I’ll also be sure to include a picture of each of the sets so you can form your own opinions.
To start this one out, you can’t really compile any list of GMK Keycaps without including arguably the most popular set of all time: GMK Olivia. It features either a black or white base color with rose gold/almost pink accents. The set is so popular, in fact, that it is always sold out, and its rare to find a listing for under $300, even for a used set. The popularity of Olivia has been basically cemented into the community, and for good reason, too. It is just one of the cleanest looking sets available.
Following the trend of minimalist/clean looking sets, another favorite of mine is GMK classic retro. Even though the design predates me a little bit, there is just something so nostalgic about the basic white gray and beige tones found on old computer keyboards. This set is probably just as expensive as Olivia, reaching prices over $500, but it has a little more to do with availability, as its a much less popular set.
The last set that we will be discussing is GMK Botanical. Botanical actually was recently re-released, so if you happen to ever be interested in trying to get a set of GMK caps, its a great option as there’s plenty of stock on the aftermarket, and the pricing shouldn’t be too expensive. The set features either a white or beige base and is accented with two shades of green. I can’t really explain it, but the color combination is just relaxing, and really pleasing to look at. I am a huge proponent of desktop plants, or even just having a couple of plastic succulents, so having a nature-themed keycap set just fits. It brings a lot of life to the space without even really trying that hard.
It was interesting to learn about these different sets of keycaps. I really like the botanical ones, with the olivia and retro following in my opinion of the ones that look the most sleek. I didn’t imagine they would be so expensive though. Very interesting to learn about your passion for keyboards these last couple weeks.
Naveen, it was great learning about your passion for keyboard these past 7 weeks. Concerning this blog, I thought the key caps were very interesting, especially how expensive these key caps can be as they are just small pieces of plastic/metal. My favorite key caps were the oilvia ones, as I really like the pink, but at $300, I do not think i will buy them anytime soon.
