Welcome to the Penn State Neuromechanics Lab affiliated with the Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, the Huck Institutes, and the Center for Neural Engineering.
We have a interdisciplinary group of researchers with engineering, science, and clinical background. Our research mission is to restore motor and sensory functions of individuals with neural or muscular injuries. Our research focuses on 1) the fundamental problems of control and neuromechanics of the arm and hand after neural or muscular injuries, and 2) the development of neural-machine interface techniques that can reduce sensorimotor deficits in clinical populations. We develop and implement interdisciplinary approaches in signal processing, machine learning, neuroscience, computational modeling, assistive robotics, and wearable sensing. Our long-term goal is to improve functional recovery and enhance the quality of life of disabled individuals, and maximize research translation to clinical practice.
