Closely related to the horsechestnut, the Ohio buckeye is a small to medium-sized tree, which grows best on deep, fertile soils in the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. Ohio buckeyes usually grow to a height of 40 to 60 feet, but this particular specimen, much taller than the average, is also notable for its unusual shape. Buckeyes have five segments to their leaves, unlike the horsechestnut, which has seven.
