Green ash, the most widely distributed of the ash family, is usually a small tree, not taller than 40 feet high and 18 inches in diameter. Typically found in moist bottomlands or along stream banks, the green ash features serrated leaves which are shiny on both sides; the sheen is the basis for the tree’s common name.

  • Is a fast growing tree that grows to be 50-60 feet.
  • also been called red ash, swamp ash and water ash. It has replaced the white ash as the wood most oars and canoe paddles are made of.
