2018 is going to be the Mets’ year! I may have said that in 2017 and 2016 and 2015…. And so on and so forth but no hear me out! This is finally the Mets’ year. I truly believe that this is the year the Mets will win the World Series. In fact I believe that this year there will be a Mets-Yankees World Series. That’s right. A subway series will return to the fall classic this year.
The Mets are back. Hopefully. The biggest drawback of the last couple of seasons is injuries. The Mets have gotten hurt at historic levels and it has taken them out of contention every single year. This year it looks like all five of their starters will be ready to go on opening day. Noah Syndergaard, Jacob DeGrom, Matt Harvey, Steven Matz and Zack Wheeler were the future of the franchise and the future is finally here because in 2018 they all will pitch in the same week. The Mets also made off-season moves to bring back Jay Bruce and sign Todd Frazier. Meaning that they have a core along with Yoenis Cespedes that could hit 30+ home runs in the middle of the lineup. Adding Michael Conforto to that lineup when he returns from injury and the production from rookies Amed Rosario and Dominic Smith means the Mets line up could be safe from the troubles they usually fall into. The Mets have had troubles in the past getting runs on the board in June and July but this year the production looks like it could be consistent all year. They may not beat the Nationals for the NL East but they are a playoff team and can make a run in October when they get there.
The Yankees are a simpler case to make. They were a game away from making the world series last year and in the course of the off-season they acquired the MLB’s best home run hitters. The core of Gary Sanchez, Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton is almost enough said. The starting pitching may be weak but they bullpen is strong and can win games if the starters get through at least five innings. The Yankees have some competition from the Red Sox this year but should glide through the AL East. They also have room to win deep in the post-season and are a real threat to the defending champion Houston Astros.
I don’t know who would win in a battle of the best young arms (Mets) in baseball against the best bats (Yankees) in baseball. They will play six games against each other in the regular season. 3 games in June and 3 games in July and maybe we will get a glimpse of what could be a New York-New York world series this year. I’m excited to see to what happens either way.

You’ve really convinced me that the Mets are going to win this year. I don’t really keep up with professional baseball, but if you predicted correctly, I know this is going to be a huge thing! I hope they win – for your sake haha

I don’t really know anything about baseball and can’t really comment on the baseball aspect but I really like your enthusiasm. Eagles fans said the same thing with Carson Wentz this year and it turned out beautifully for them. So, although every team is probably saying the same thing, it would be cool to see a New York- New York World Series.
