Back at home, before coming to college, there was always doubt in my mind if I would make friends; I am sure some of you can relate. I have always been highly extroverted; I knew I would make at least one friend, but there was always that worry. On one of my first days here at Penn State, many of us Latinos went downtown and finished eating at some place I do not remember. It was a fantastic experience that led to many bonds while having a blast just eating and enjoying getting to know all the cultures and people. Since this day, I’ve had a goal to eat with friends at least once weekly, talk, enjoy the company, and get to know each other on a deeper level. Although I go to have a good time with friends, one of my main priorities is enjoying good food.
As I have said, I’ve been eating horribly, so we eat mainly fast foods. We are broke college students that cannot afford restaurants. Even though we can’t, we decided, for some reason, that eating sushi at Tadashi on College Avenue was a good idea. As a picky eater, I’m not too fond of sushi, so you can tell I did not choose the restaurant; surprisingly, they had a lot of variety that I could choose from. I was able to eat delicious pork buns and some ribs that were kind of spicy but good. I just saw on the menu that they have dumplings, my favorite food, and spring rolls, which are a good substitute for egg rolls, so you will see me returning to eat dumplings.
Honestly, the food there is really good. Also, I thought it would be costly and lose all the money my parents gave me for the month there; that was not the case. It is pricey because I do not want to spend one dollar since I am a broke college student, but it has reasonable prices; just do not go weekly. I recommend what I ate but if you like sushi, go for it. It is known for that, not for some good ribs and pork buns.
Frankly, I feel like I am limiting myself to foods I could eat back home. I need to start looking to broaden my range of foods. What’s the worst thing that could happen? I get some allergies, but that doesn’t matter. It will be baby steps, so you are welcome to come along for the ride, but I will. I promise. Going back to the restaurant, it is a good restaurant where you can go with your friends and do not have to wait for your parents to come and use their money as I will do for some restaurants here at State College. Also, remember not to forget to take time with your friends to get to know them personally, whether eating at Burger King or in Tadashi. It is very fun, and you have an excuse to go and eat. See you in the next craving!
