Located downtown, right on top of Target, twenty-five minutes walking from East Halls, maybe ten from the library, is Federal Taphouse. Relatively new, Federal Taphouse specializes in burgers. Although specialized, it has a reasonably broad menu, and everything is so good, even the dessert.
I’ve gone two times. The first time was with my roommate’s father and our friends; the second time was with a friend. Every time I’ve gone, it has been a pleasant experience. I haven’t waited to be seated; the servers are amiable, the food is delicious and has a sporty vibe, making it homier, and the vibes are just good.
The first time we went, I ate half a Taphouse burger since I wasn’t that hungry, and for dessert, I shared a chocolate cake. I wouldn’t say I like chocolate, except snickers, of course, so surprisingly it was really good. The second time I ate a NY Strip Steak with french fries. Mine came a bit overcooked for how I like it, but my friends came perfect, and it looked bomb. The french fries had the perfect amount of salt, and it was mixing with the steak’s flavor; I really enjoyed it. Unlike the last post, the waiter wasn’t rushing us, so we could actually enjoy our food.

While preparing for this passion blog, I viewed Taphouse’s website to look at the menu and get the proper names of the food. By doing this, I quickly realized they are hiring. This is an extreme bonus since you could go to work and get discounts on the food. That would probably be its only downfall. The last time I went, we had two portions of meat, which was almost a hundred dollars. Keep in mind we didn’t order anything more apart from the meats.
Also, it has takeout. Lately, I haven’t been motivated to move from my bed or do anything since I’ve been very sick with the change in temperature and my asthma. This helps for the days when I wake up at three pm feeling worse than ever; I could ask for takeout and come back to my dorm and eat. Or ask for delivery and have it brought right to my door. Though I feel like that would be more expensive, I would rather walk over there to get some fresh air and sunlight and then return to my dorm with the food and money saved.
I really liked the place, so I would suggest going and trying the Taphouse Burger, which has been one of the best burgers I have tried so far, and that’s a lot to say. Heads up, it is more expensive than Panda at the HUB. The Taphouse burger was sixteen dollars, and the NY Strip Steak was thirty-five dollars. If you don’t want to waste your money, wait till your parents come to town and recommend that place to them; that’s what I would do. I hope you’ve had a fantastic day and enjoyed reading my blog post. See you in the next craving!
I LOVE FEDERAL TAPHOUSE! I like the format of your blog and the humor that you placed throughout it. Your language kept me, the reader, engaged. I think I can often get caught in a trap of only eating on campus because it’s convenient, but I like how you explain other places in the Penn State community.
