Tussey Mountain

I only went snowboarding after coming to Penn State. When I realized I was terrible at it. I come from Puerto Rico, so obviously, there is no snow, but I wanted to try it for fun. I thought it would be all fun and games until I realized I couldn’t even stand in those things.

I’ve gone snowboarding about three times, and it always ends up the same way, not wanting to return. I spend more time on the floor than I do snowboarding. Although I fall and come out with bruises, am sore throughout the week, and can barely walk, I have a lot of fun; especially the first two times I have gone. I was able to progress a little bit little by little.

It was an enjoyable experience to go with friends and see them fall as well. At least I knew I wasn’t the only person that was going to be sitting on the snow while the people passed by. Also, a side note, super embarrassing that there were other Latinos I knew who did learn how to snowboard just passing by. They probably did two laps while I sat on the floor, trying to stand up. That’s how you know how bad I am.

Since I’m so bad, I realized I need to go when there is a lot of snow. The last time I went, I fell so many times; it hurt too much, and I had bruises. It was too icy that when I hit the ground, it was like hitting cement. It was not it. Also, since it hurts so bad and I’m done with hurting myself for fun, I promised myself that I would take snowboarding classes the next time I go, even if my friends are all on the slopes. It is better I take classes, miss a day of fun, and stop hurting myself than continue to come out hurt.

I know there are a lot of places, but the place we have gone to, all three or four times that I have gone, I can’t remember, has been Tussey Mountain. I don’t know anything about snowboarding, so I can’t tell you if it’s good or not, but I can tell you it was tricky for me also, that it has a steep slope in the middle with a lot of bumps which are blue and black.

The place is excellent, about 75 dollars per person without classes. It includes the 2-hour pass, board, hat, and boots; it would be different if you were skiing. Maybe it’s cheap, or perhaps it’s not, I don’t know. I’m just here to tell you the prices. Apart from that, it has a firepit which is so lovely for getting warm after snowboarding, and you can see the slopes from there, which is also very nice.

Tussey has a decent restaurant. I want to go on an all-day pass, snowboard, stop and eat, and continue snowboarding. I recommend the place, but if you are a beginner, I suggest private lessons first. It is awful to hit yourself every second.
