“All I Want is You” by Mac Miller–is a Pleasant Listen

Mac Miller has been performing since he was a young teen, and he worked in the industry for over a decade before his early passing in 2018. I think people know at least one of his songs, especially now with “The Spins” being a tune played by so many high school graduates because of the catchy nature of it (and obviously because of the line “Oh, I graduated, oh yeah, I just graduated high school).”

I think “All I Want is You” by Mac Miller is a song you can listen to wherever with whoever. I would turn this song on when I’m chilling with my friends or if I’m driving around town. Immediately, Mac Miller has a very pleasant voice with a nice flow that makes this song an easy listen.

This song is about a man, I assume Mac Miller, yearning for a woman who is hesitant. He acknowledges that he might become famous very soon and be surrounded by a lot of other women, but he knows that the only person he wants is her. He talks about how he knows she loves him, but she is scared to admit it or commit to the relationship.

I enjoy how the music was a simple, consistent beat throughout the track because it allows the lyrics to stand out and be the focus of the song. A line that stuck out in the song is “see the smile on her face, and I can’t help but carry on,” because it was relatable to me. When you love someone or have feelings for them, it’s easy to forget the pain or issues of the relationship the second you see them. Your whole day is made if you’re able to make that one special person smile. Another line that stuck out is “I know this girl who want the world… and once she leave, she ain’t coming back home,” because it is applicable to most young people. I think many relationships don’t work out because teens and young adults want to explore the world and see what else is out there before they decide on a place to root down on or person to spend the rest of their life with.

I give this song a 6/10. I thoroughly enjoy his voice and the song is pleasant to listen to, but it lacks a unique quality that would make the song stand out or be memorable. I didn’t become emotionally attached to the song or feel like he was talking about my life which is what often attracts me to songs.

  1. As I am currently in the city of Pittsburgh for school which is Mac Millers’ hometown, I’ve been exposed to a lot of his music. I find that he is one of the most personal artists I listen to, making it easy to follow the story he is telling. I am a huge fan of his music and even more so being in Pittsburgh. I find myself doing homework or walking to class listening to his more “chill” songs as I paint the story of the song in my head. I really enjoyed your review and still waiting for that 7/10 rating that I desperately want from you.

  2. I love your take on this song. It’s really cool to see your perspective on the lyrics and how they connect to you. I really like listening to Mac Miller, but I haven’t listened to this one yet. Mac Miller’s songs are usually super “vibey” and definitely a great way to relax, so I’ll definitely listen to this one soon.

  3. As someone who used to be a huge Mac Miller fan I love you point of view on these songs. Music is very powerful and we all hear it different. I agree you can feel is heartbreak through the music and lyrics. Great blog!
