A Fit Foodie

Being an avid fitness and nutrition junkie I love finding blogs and different websites full of nutrition and fitness inspiration and advice. This is exactly what drew me into a blog by Registered Dietitian Tanya, who is also pursuing her PhD in Nutrition and Exercise Science. Her blog is full of recipes and different workouts that have inspired her and her fitness journey.

The design of her blog is very simple and clean which I really enjoyed. She has some pictures in her blogs but nothing that is overwhelming, and I liked that she included pictures of the foods talked about in her recipes. I also like that on her blog she has a category menu where you can look for a topic specifically that she has blogged about which makes searching the website much easier. I feel that Tanya addresses her audience both formally and informally. She has some blog topics that she has continued for over a year and you can tell in her posts that she is typing as if she were talking to a friend, not the entire web. She has blogs like “Wellness Wednesday” and “Manic Monday” that she posts in weekly which show more of her personality.

Since she is a Registered Dietitian I know that her points are research and knowledge based due to the field. Although her blogs on her marathon training and diet may be more personal and not as scientific. I do not think this takes away from the character and honesty of her blog, but makes it more personable for readers. She also contains links in her blogs to the ADA and other nutrition credited sources which can help provide more nutrition information to readers.

I feel the author engages with readers by covering a variety of topics so that everyone can find something that they can relate to. I really enjoyed many of her blogs on Sports Nutrition and the variety of topics that she covered within this blog category. One of the blogs I found interesting was one she had posted last year about the ACSM Annual Meeting that she had attended. I thought it was great to see from a Dietitians perspective of what the conference was really like and how excited she was to attend the conference. From a students perspective I felt this was very helpful because student’s are always encouraged to attend conferences, but many do not really know what many conferences entail. This blog gave a firsthand look into a major conference that is held every year.

One thing I would like to incorporate into my own blog is her sense of creativity and passion for everything that she blogs about. Her weekly posts show that she has a lot of followers and truly cares about the people who read her blog. She also is always talking about different recipe ideas and workouts that she has discovered to not only inspire herself, but inspire those who take the time to read her blog. I feel that as a blogger you need to develop a connection with an audience whom you may not even get to meet. The power of blogging though rests in this because making a connection with someone through your words is a powerful sense of inspiration.
