“Also, I just really, really love avocados”

Ten years ago I made the decision to become a vegetarian, a lifestyle choice that sparked my interest in food, nutrition, and health, and ultimately encouraged me to pursue a career in nutritional sciences. I aspire to educate others on their dietary choices to better off their wellbeing. I identified with Rachael Hartley’s blog Avocado A Day Nutrition, where she seeks readers to, “rediscover the joys of eating”. Rachael works to help others in their everyday life including wellbeing, mental health, and wholesome nutrition, goals of hers that I also share and hope to accomplish after completing my education en route of becoming a registered dietician. Rachael is a registered dietician, vegetarian, and self-proclaimed “ avocado enthusiast”, behavior and passions that I certainly see in myself, which may be why I find her blog so intriguing. Beyond that Rachael obtains a major in psychology and uses her blog as a jobsite to provide nutritional counseling. Under the “SHOP” tag at the top of her page, readers are able to purchase various sorts of nutritional consults packages. The online consults range in price from $3 to $100 and will be conducted over the telephone or Skype, allowing her to provide nutritional education on a national level.

Overall, Avocado A Day Nutrition is a well-organized blog and allows for visitors to easily access nutritional information, a background of her educational process and lifestyle, recipes, and resources that she personally uses to reference information. Post from Avocado A Day Nutrition are written informally to be understood by multiple audiences and link to other forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest, which she uses in combination with her blog to share her nutritional knowledge and passion for health. Rachael’s blog is a concrete source of her own information in combination with other sources such as WebMD and nutrition blogs that she follows posted by other registered dieticians and doctors.

Rachael’s blog acquires a very chic design. It is very clean cut, represented with the image of an avocado, which to her signifies the simplicity that should be kept in dieting by not focusing on macronutrients in whole foods, but rather their taste and health benefits. Throughout her blog, Rachael really stresses that it is important to eat foods that are not only nutritious but also tasteful. Post on Avocado A Day Nutrition focus on the sciences and nutrients behind having a healthy diet and then provide recipes and fun ways to integrate these nutrients into your diet. Personally I feel that providing alluring recipes and easy tips are an important aspect to a nutritional blog in order to relate and appeal to your audience, something that I would incorporate into my own blog on nutrition.

I very much enjoyed and related to Rachael Hartley’s writing style in her post and look forward to reading her future post on having a flavorsome and nutritious life style- like her vegan recipe for spicy sweet potato fries, a moderately healthy appetizer idea shared just in time for Super Bowl Sunday!
