Take control of your diet

People are constantly searching for a quick fix. They want to find a diet that will help them lose all of their excess weight in a week or less. They do not realize that dieting is not the way to do this. A healthy body is not achieved with dieting but with balance. Consuming a balanced diet every day is key to living a healthier life. It is also something everyone can control in their own life. Sarah Awwad, a registered dietitian, often blogs about lifestyle changes versus dieting in her blog, “Your nutrition, your perspective, The no dieting philosophy.” As soon as I came across this article, I was interested. Being healthy is not characterized by a  certain shape or size. It is all about your own perspective. It is also about how you treat your body. I personally enjoy treating my body with respect, so I automatically knew I was enjoy Awwad’s blog.

The blog is formatted in a type of sequential order. She starts out with an introduction, and then begins to tell the readers how the French were the first people to describe how our eating behaviors affect our diet and health. She then proceeds to break that idea down further into the “how” of eating.  These components are what we eat and our mind and intuition. She further breaks down those two topics. She explains to the reader how eating on smaller plates will help you eat less and lose weight. I also really enjoyed this diagram she included.

eating environment

The diagram included some other helpful ways to help everyone be mindful of the environment in which they eat, so they are able to lose more weight. She then explained how the five senses and our brains affect our our diet. I thought that was very interesting and I find myself constantly thinking of my five senses as I eat. She then finishes with a final note of how eating slower will help your diet. The author is very informal when addressing the audience. She use us and we.

The information presented in the blog seems to be accurate. The pictures are given photo credit, but there are no information sources listed. I feel, as though, much of the information could be opinionated or thoughts she believes. The information about the French diet probably should have been cited, though.

The author engages the readers with short questions or personal quotes from her life. The quote that personally hooked me in was “Oh, you are a dietitian… Cool give me a diet plan please I want to lose my belly fat”. Being a nutrition major, I hear that question all the time. I felt as if I could really relate to her blog, so I wanted to keep reading. I personally would want to include this style into my own blog. I think it is a great way to capture the readers attention. It is also a way to incorporate your own flare into your writing.  I encourage everyone to follow Awwad’s blog!
