Healthy on a budget

As often I hear “I can’t afford to eat healthy,” “I can’t afford to get a gym membership,” “I can’t afford being healthy,” and so many others “I can’t” that in reality are excuses to stop bad habits and start a new beginning. One clear example is our new year’s resolutions. Who doesn’t consider as part as their new year’s resolution to eat healthy, to get involved in more physical activity, to lose extra unnecessary weight? If you are like me, those resolutions listed are on your top list each year. And how many of us keep that resolution for the entire year? People give up so easily when they do not see results immediately, but guess what? If you do not make any changes on time, there are a lot of risks associated with not eating healthy. Usually, we start off with the right foot for at least the first few weeks of the New Year, but then we give up and quit. As far as I know, nothing is simple in life. We have to work hard toward our goals in order to succeed. This means that if you are working towards that goal that you have always wished for, you need to be persistent and patient.

While looking for nutrition education materials I found very interesting resources that are all about purchasing the right foods when we are on a budget. And who is not on a budget? When it comes to our health, it is important to prioritize it and make the right choices. EatRightPRO.org not only provides us with information about nutrition, but it leads you to the steps in order to achieve your goals. They create innovative ideas to approach audiences that are considering on making changes in their lives or for people who already have a healthy lifestyle and wants to keep pursuing that lifestyle.

One of their many materials, is intended to help us eat right on a budget. It gives us ideas on what to do and how to choose wisely. Also, it is important to select the right nutrients. It is very important to me, to know why I need a certain amount of intake of a product. That way, I associated it with my daily lifestyle and don’t forget to buy it the next time I got to the grocery store. It is also helpful when telling others about your healthy choices and about your change. It becomes like a chain, because the more people you tell about your experience, the more people will be getting involved in choosing a healthy lifestyle, even though they are on limited budget.

The posters are intended to be dynamic and easy to understand. You do not need to be a nutritionist in order to know what they are about. It was surprising to me the quality of the materials. They were very straight forward. However, I would make it more attractive in order to catch people’s attention immediately, simplifying some things and making it more entertaining to the audience.

Personally, I would use these materials to distribute them in grocery stores, farmer’s market, schools, clinics, offices and use a massive e-mailing distribution targeting college students and parents. It will also be very beneficial to distribute them along with the newspapers.
