“Eat more vegetables and fruits!” My mom keeps telling me that every time she calls me. Everyone knows veggies and fruits are good for health, but people rarely would follow the rules and eat veggies and fruits everyday. Most of people just feel boring and think it simply doesn’t taste good, so they just don’t want to eat it.

“Fruits and veggies more matters” is a website helping American to increase their daily consumption of veggies and fruits. When I first time saw the name, I was thinking like, it must be a boring websites with all the facts and benefits of eating veggies and fruits. However, after I deeply look into the website, I was surprised by its fascinating design and interesting content! And there are actually so many entertaining ways to eat fruits and veggies!

Once you enter the homepage, you will see so many colorful and beautiful photos of fruits and vegetables that even make you want to go and eat some immediately. The website divides it contents into six different categories, which includes fruits and vegetables info, meal planning, recipes, community and social, healthy kids and videos. Each category has more little sections which are easy to follow up.

I really enjoy the videos part of the website that teach you different way to eat fruits and veggies! One of the funniest video that I found out is to grill watermelon. Yes, watermelon can be grilled too! The taste is even more intense and sweeter, since it’s dehydrated after being grilled.

Moreover, most people love fruit made desserts no matter how much they dislike eating veggies and fruits. The website provides a list of some low calorie desserts and recipes of making it. Try to put more fruits on a fruit tart is also a way to increase your daily consumption!

As a nutrition educator, I will first show people the entertaining videos of having fruits and veggies to attract people’s attention. I will then educate them with nutrition knowledge that provided on the website. For example, the website introduce the term “Phytochemicals” which is a broad name for diversity of compounds produced by plants. I will use the details of how to get phytochemicals and the health benefits of phytochemicals. I will also provide them a list of common phytochemicals that people should know about.

Besides the basic knowledge of fruits and veggies, I would also use the information from the section that specially designed for kids. As we know it is always hard to get kids on greens, let’s get them involved in activities about fruits and veggies, such as let them washing the veggies and fruits before eating. I would high recommend the game called “Fruit and Veggie Color Champions” which teach kid about fruits and veggies and healthy diet, since all kids love to play games.
